Let me be clear these are not binoculars. There is only a single camera, the other thing that looks like a lens is the infrared illuminator. And on the back can you just look at a screen. This is a night vision camera made to look like binoculars and that is all it is. Most of these are essentially toys rather than serious tools and this one is no different although there are a couple things that allow this toy to stand out.It has a better shroud around the end that you look through that will keep the light from the screen from being obvious around your face. The build quality definitely seems to be better than many of the units Iโve handled. It feels and behaves more solidly. Even the buttons in the diopter adjust and focusing knobs feel better. (They are still placed towards the front of the unit which is an odd position for their function, forcing you to change your grip on in order to change the focus, zoom or the diopter adjustment. Still, much better build quality.)They are a little more compact and I definitely love not having to put 8 to 12 AA batteries into a night vision unit. Some of them use replaceable 18 650s which is a really good alternative. You can charge them individually or through the unit. Because this unit uses USB-C it does however charge its internal battery efficiently. You cannot change it in the field however.Ths unit has one of the brightest illuminators I have seen on a night vision camera. Itโs actually too bright if youโre looking at something fairly close. And thatโs on the lowest setting. So that is a really good advantage as it can illuminate brighter and further than many of the other night vision units. Itโs only a problem when looking at things very close but you can always cover up the illuminator with your hand.Even though the screen is smaller it has a higher resolution than the other ones that I have used and definitely delivers a sharper image. But the big stand out is that the zoom is actually optical. They put a great deal of attention to the actual optics on this compared to the competition and it shows. It also means the unit is heavier and has a more solid feel than some of the very toylike feeling units I have encountered. So whether youโre checking on the security of your house at night or trying to track animals in the dark, this kind of camera can actually be useful. Except for the bright white body housing that will give away your position. I would really like to have a chat with someone in the design department. Because that single choice negates so much of the utility of this relatively well-built unit.It has a sealed battery which charges via USB-C which is nice. And an SD card slot you can use to take pictures and video with the included 32 GB SD card.
