The ad shows the microphone barely larger than the plug but in a video review the microphone is much bigger.

Did a head-to-head comparison of this mic vs the stock LMF-2 mic that came with my Zoom F2-BT field recorder. Exact same placement, recording conditions, source, etc. (exposed and clipped to the collar of my shirt as would be standard procedure in many interview situations)I have always found the LMF-2 to be... usable but not great. It works fine for most projects, but I've had the opportunity to use truly high-end mics so I know how green that particular grass can be.In comparison, I found the YPA mic's response to be muffled and muddy-sounding, with a muted top end and significantly less presence than my Zoom mic. This is concerning, as the Zoom mic is not a particularly "bright" mic to begin with, which can quickly become an issue if it's hidden or placed behind a layer of clothing, etc. If this mic already sounds this muddy when it's out in the open... it will sound even worse if it's partially covered (many pro lav mics have an especially bright frequency response to compensate for this use case). The cable is extremely thin, to the point of being concerningly delicate. Some might argue this makes it easier to run and hide the mic cable on talent, but in my experience it just means it's extra fragile and prone to breakage over time, when talent handles it roughly/improperly (as they do).The included mic clip is very bad. The gap is so small that it's clearly designed to fit over the (very thin, fragile) cable itself, and not the thicker/reinforced portion just below the mic head (like most other mic clips do, for obvious reasons). But, it's made of rigid plastic and is really too small even for that. So, to use this clip, you find yourself trying to cram the very thin fragile cable into the tiny clip, putting lots of stress/pressure on the cable right where it meets the mic. Bad news.At the end of the day, this is going at the very bottom of my collection of lav mics. I'd bring it out only in circumstances where a) I need multiple mics and I have no other choices b) usage conditions are such that the mic is likely to be ruined or destroyed during use (wet conditions, very rough/heavy use). And I'd have to use a third-party clip if I want to use it at all.If this was a $10 or $15 mic I could forgive it's faults, but at this price point there are other, better made and better-sounding options available.

This is a lightweight 3.5mm TRS mirophone. It has a retractable crew connector that will allow you to firmly lock this in place to a Sennheiser mic pack. This design means it will work with any mic/recorder that accepts a 3.5mm input. It's not limited to SennheiserThe microphone itself looks and sounds good for talking head interviews, which is what this mic is designed for. I haven't done a full test to see how it works for a variety of subjects as I wanted it for picking up talking voices. The cable is very thin. From my experience, this is both a blessing and a curse. Thin wires are easier to hide and manuver. But they are also more fragine. It is easy to break the fragile wires inside by bending the cable too much. So far the cable is holding up - but I'm curious to see how it holds up over time. The clip is a strange design. It connects to the wire via rubber tension. It functions for pointing/clipping the mic, but puts all the stress on the cable connector. This doesn't seem like a good idea - but time will tell.

I recently started using the new DJI wireless mics, which I think are terrific. The DJI transmitters have mics built in, so you can clip the unit to your collar and just start shooting, which works fine in some situations, but I was looking for a more professional looking result, where I needed the mic to be less obtrusive (or in some instances, not visible at all). The DJI transmitter has the ablitity to accept a plug-in lavalier, so I picked up tis YPA 6018 on the strength of the video review that says it's not limited to Senhieser systems. The locking 3.5mm connector is a real plus that is missing on a lot of less expensive mics, and I really like that the mic itslef is so tiny. I did a few tests comparing the onboard DJI mic with the YPA lavalier and, to my ears, the YPA provides somewhat better restults. Overall, I'm happy and will order another, so that I have a lavalier for each of the two DJI transmitters. The price to quality ratio for this mic is excellent.
