Had cable steering before, and hydraulic steering cost less than then the cables. Installation was simple have had on my boat for approximately a year no problems at all. Would highly recommend this product.

Did not include needed backing plate for helm. Had to contact seller and have them send it. Instructions for lines are backwards. Had to pull lines from helm and flip them.

Installed this on my Javelin 389 SE with a johnson 150. Took about 3 hours including removing original cables and steering.Used a cut off wheel at each end to remove original cables. Fittings included with the kit to shorten the hoses. You will need a steering wheel puller (HF 20 bucks if you dont have one)Based on reviews, i didnt bother with the instructions.i used a vacuum bleeder to bleed the system, ended up at 4-1/2 turns lock to lock.Very impressed with the quality of the entire system and i can now steer with one finger

I had this professionally installed, they could not get the helm to pump fluid clockwise. Assuming they did not know what they were doing, I brought it to another shop, same issue. Works properly counterclockwise, will not accept fluid clockwise. Not sure if it’s a faulty helm pump or ram, but hoping the seller will respond to this.Update, seller accepted the return of the whole system, and is sending out a new one. we shall see if this one works.New unit installed and appears to be working, these are difficult to bleed and the instructions are not great but if it performs on the water I will update to 4 stars

Replaced a detmar twin rack steering in a 19 foot bass boat powered by a mercury 150hp xr4 black max. All vintage 1989. Here is what you want to know..1. Steering shaft is tapered with woodruff key. Uses your old wheel and hub. My wheel is a 3/4 inch taper and it sat perfectly.2. You need 1.8 quarts of hydraulic helm fluid, so buy 2 quarts when you buy the kit.3. The hole needed for the helm/pump was much larger than my detmar helm. It is a 3 inch hole for the pump and 4 small 3/8" for the mounting studs..4. The hoses move with the motor. Unlike cable steering where the cable as stationary, these hoses move with the motor. Keep this in mind as the install needs to address hose rubbing and bending.. I highly suggest reinforcing the motor fitting side so the hose does not bend at the fitting but further down the hose.5. There is a fill kit with this model. Has 2 hoses, one with a threaded end that goes into the pump fill hole. The other is the bleeder valve drain hose so you can avoid a messy bilge.6. When filling keep fluid in the tube all times when turning the wheel. It will suck fluid from the bottle as you go and exchange air but make sure the fluid column in the tube is at least an inch above the plastic fitting.8. There are colored caps on the hose. Make sure each hose has only one color, and take the extra step to mark one hose with tape and/or a felt tip or permanent marker so you can identify the port vs starboard hoses after pulling them through the boat.9. Clean. Your. Tilt. Tube... get some brake cleaner. Clean that tube out really good and grease it well.10. Having 20 someodd feet of hose makes this a pain in the butt to work with on smaller boats, however they did you a favor. If in the future you wear a hose out you can get the fittings at tractor supply and replace them. Also the mfg will send you new ones upon request.11. Finally. Instructions are horribly translated. Like there was one sentence on the helm install that didn't even make any sense or refer to the product at all. It is straight forward and yes, port goes on starboard and vice versa. I was told they are updating the instructions so perhaps future purchases will get the new ones.My opinion on the build? first thoughts Well it didn't leak lol. Went together easy enough and was very sturdy and looked well made. My dash was custom so I had to rototool out some fascia and bolt it right to a stainless plate over fiberglass. Hoses pulled through the boat ok but lay em in the sun so they straighten out and your not fighting the bends. I can turn the motor with one finger now at no wake speeds.Update: This really is a Great kit! I have used my boat 5 times since install and I absolutely love it. I don't have any feedback on plane. Steers smooth and easy.. and because its smooth and easy, the number of turns aren't a problem. if anything, the additional lock to lock turns provide greater precision at high speeds. I have updated my rating to 5 stars, and I recommend this to anyone looking to replace their steering.

So far I have been missing 2 nuts and got it bleed one time and still had air. Now when I went to bleed a second time the steering has stopped working and there is no fluid coming out of one of my bleeders and there are no leaks. Waiting for support to help or I will be going else where.Update: so far the company has done lots of work to help fix there product and it has worked so far. I will keep you guys updated.

One finger to turn the wheel vs both hands. I do recommend this Steering Unit. And for reasons I won't go into, I had to install it with my boat in the water. I don't recommend that. I had everything installed,. Hydraulic ram on the motor, hoses pulled through as I pulled the cables out and the dash cut out for the helm. So, I'm standing in the center of my boat screwing a fitting into the back of the helm. Figured it would be easier than putting them in after the helm is bolted into the dash. I drop one of the fittings, it bounces off the dash and does a triple axle right over the side of the boat into the lake. Talk about pissed. So I get my dive gear and go down to try and find it. In a Texas lake. Spent an hour and a 1000 lbs of air looking for it. No luck. So I message the seller and told them what happened, and asked about buying a replacement. I also asked about the price of the compression fittings to shorten the hoses. They sent me a replacement fitting & 2 compression fittings for free. And, they paid to FedEx express it to me. Didn't cost me a thing. I don't write product reviews. I think this is like the 2nd or 3rd one in probably 10 years. But these guys went above and beyond to help me out. I can't say enough about their customer service. And so far, it's working great. I hope this helps somebody out in making their decision. Good product, excellant customer sevice. I highly recommend.
