These pens, or nib holders for dip pens, do work great, they hold the nib in place very well and the nib is firm inside to prevent unwanted moving while using the pen, that being said, is also a little bit difficult to put the nib in sometimes, I think it might be just that they are new, but I have not experience this firmness before, and also is only with some of them, still that doesn't bother me as they work great and I will still recommend them.

I tested a decent number of nibs from my collection and I tried to get a good sampling of average sizes for various hand in addition to modern calligraphy styles. I also tried to test a variety of nib shapes. These pen holders would be fine if you’re teaching an intro class and working with G and steno/pumpkin nibs. The other nibs I’ve tried were hit-or-miss with a few not working at all and did not fit securely (or at all). Since the ferrule is plastic, there’s no way to adjust the fit. All of my G nibs worked in this wooden pen holder. Below are a few others I tried:Nibs that did not work: “rose”, LPEF, G170, G303, G404.Small nibs that did work: G1068a, G1950, LPEF66 “arrow”.Sorta Worked (a bit loose in the holder): H22/EF.The quality varies in terms of the application of the shellac/finish and a few had some excess glue visible from inserting the ferrule; however, neither of these slight blemishes impacted the usability of the pen holders. They have a slightly fuller body than other straight pen holders, and the curvature allows for an easy grip. They’re long enough to be comfortable, but not so long that they’re cumbersome. Similarly, the pen holders are not too short for my liking.Overall, I think these are decent, lightweight wooden practice pens that I wouldn’t mind if they got stained, but they also do the job decently.
