These devices have the part number of Cmos devices but are sub-standard ne555 timers. These are from a Chinese manufacturer that are flooding the market with inferior products. I reordered Cmos times from an American nationally known parts supplier and the devices performed per specification. The supplier that Amazon uses needs to be eliminated.

I wired up a breadboard circuit to run the timers in Astable mode. 9 out of 10 worked well at 20 kHz, good square wave on the scope while driving a Led. The one was 'dead', did nothing.

they were priced good and arrived in time. I wanted them quickly and Amazon delivered in time no issues.As others mentioned you need to test them for defect. From what I received, 1 of them was bad (9 out of 10 were good).

First chip was DOA. I checked and rechecked my circuit then I decided that it was not the circuit. After testing all ten of the chips today I found one 1 working. Wasted money. Return window closed.

I tested all 10 chips. The 1st unit did nothing, but the remaining units tested okay.The 555 timer backstory is very interesting, a legacy device introduced almost 50 years ago.

I ordered 3 sets of 10 (30 total) of these 555 timer chips. In the first set, 8 were good, 2 were defective (80%).In the second set, 9 were good, 1 was defective (90%). In the third set, 5 were good, 5 were defective (50%). I didn't try to return any because I need the chips and time is of the essence. I strongly recommend you build a simple astable circuit and test each one before using it in your project (it will save you a lot of grief). One of the defective chips actually worked but drew way more current than specified. I tested all chips using 10 volts and limiting current to 10ma. I gave it 3 stars because the price was reasonable and shipping was quick.
