Top 7 Benefits of using a Visual Schedule in the Classroom

1. Master Routines: SchKIDules makes it easier for kids to recognize and learn their daily routines. Kids do not always pick up on trends and often the abstract can feel very chaotic or spontaneous. Showing your child visually that, for instance, the same 3 steps are expected upon arriving home from school will help them internalize the process and remember it next time.

2. Language Permanence: If your child is easily distracted, forgets often, or asks you to repeat yourself, a visual schedule provides the language permanence that will help reduce these issues. When we speak, our words are only available for a moment. When we support speech with something tangible like pictures, kids can refer to it for as long as he/she needs.

3. Foster Independence: Kids need guidance at all different levels. A visual schedule can help provide quiet guidance that will help him/her be more independent and feel more confident.

4. Relieve Anxiety: Whether the anxiety is mild or severe, kids can experience it when they don’t know what to expect. Some kids crave the knowledge and feel uneasy not knowing what to plan for (Type-As). Others sense “chaos” when they don’t have a grasp on what’s to come which can make a child feel very anxious. Either way, an anxious child is not a relaxed child and is therefore more prone to behavioral problems. Sharing “what’s next” or what’s happening that day can provide a sense of calm, predictability and safety. This, in turn, will reduce their anxiety as well as provide a platform for your child to share their concerns and questions.

5. Build Self Confidence: Visual schedule often result in more successful behavior. Successful behavior generally receives praise and praise builds self confidence.

6. Establish Trust: One wouldn't think visual schedules would have anything to do with trust when in actuality it can help build it. Sharing what's next builds trust because you are including your child in your plan which makes them feel more respected. Following through on that plan then tells them they can trust what you share.

7. Increased Cooperation: There are two reasons visual schedules boost compliant behavior. First, children are always going to test the boundaries. Having a visual schedule with they day's plan will reduce this likelihood. When a child sees no plan, they may interpret that to mean there is no plan. And no plan means it's up for negotiation. When a parent posts the plan for the day, the child can see this has already been decided by the person in charge and there is probably little wiggle room for it to be altered. Second, some kids may see that plan and still not like, for example, that there is a dentist appointment today. However, by posting that plan from the start of the day, that child has a long time to get used to, or "cope' with this news. Sometimes kids need this time to get used to a disappointing idea. On the other hand, if you wait until it's time to leave, it is quite possible that child has a meltdown.

It really cuts down on having to repeat instructions every morning, afternoon and night. Great quality and size. It has school-based events as well as family-based and personal care events. I just wish it came with a few blank tiles and a few more repeats of things like “Clear Table” or “Go Outside”.

Our daughter is on the spectrum with speech and language difficulties. These have significantly helped her communicate what she needed.I highly recommend them.I will say I wish there were more diverse, with more in there like feelings and stuff and I know you can buy them separately I just wish there were still some included as the whole set.

Best, most complete visual schedule available. The schedule includes unique cards no other company offers like: lining-up, deodorant & lotion, calender, language, English, spelling, writing, Reading & reading aloud, lights. My complaint is that the cards are sort of thin so I have to use my nail to raise the cards off of my board which has caused the corners to turn up and cause deterioration quicker. So my recommendation is to make the cards thicker and charge more.

Good quality.Updated graphics would be appreciated. My biggest issue is that I wish some of the magnets had at least 3 copies or more.Like wash hands, make table, clear table, eat meal, take meds, etc...There are also some missing magnets for steps like flush toilet, wipe body etc.I want to have daily routines without having to recreate them several times a day.So if the kit doesn't come with them in multiples, they should be available for purchase individually.Better yet, the ability to make your own kit!

They have so many different to do pictures and the quality is amazing for the price. Got this for my two year old son so we can start with a routine and he can know what the plan for the day is. They have many school based magnets as well for school aged kids which is pretty cool.

The box and magnets are smaller then I thought they would be but they are perfect size for what I need them for. Good price for the value.

Decent set, but seems pretty expensive for what it is. Also would like some blank ones that would work with dry erase markers. Really need more than one potty magnet.

Absolutely great for our autistic son who needs alot of pictures for everything. The pictures are big and lots of visuals I could ask for. They are great and very realistic not cheap looking. Come in a great cardboard case and compact.

My son is Autistic (high-functioning with PDA traits) and ADHD. He thrives with a visual schedule, but everything we've tried before this has been a bust. This has been the best solution by far. It's working really well for us and I think will serve us for a long time. The magnets themselves are of good quality. They were a little tough to separate initially, but we just bent them back and forth at the seam until they came apart. Here's how I use the magnets:I use the magnets for homeschooling during the week and chores or life skills on the weekend. We use the front of the refrigerator and use the "To Do" column to create the schedule for the day. As each thing is completed, we move it to the"Done" column. I write appointments and times to the schedule (in dry erase marker).I house the unused magnets on a large dry erase board which I store next to the refrigerator. I sort the magnets by theme for easy selecting.I usually have a few required magnets and parameters for him, but I let him arrange them and give him options to choose from for the remainder. The best part is we can go as detailed as he needs for the day, he chooses. We do supplement with additional detailed visual schedules (printed and laminated) for processes that we need to dig into further. For example, getting dressed we have a schedule so he knows to take off dirty clothes, throw them in the hamper, select new clothes, etc. This can be done for process they are struggling with.

I'm a Professional Organizer, and I just bought this for my own home to aid my 4 year old son with the family calendar/routine. What I love most is the sheer diversity of the magnets--speech therapy, OT, gymmastics, swim, dance, vacation, movie night---soooo many inclusions! Really makes creating a visual calendar fun and effective.I bought two magnetic whiteboards plus this magnet set. Top board I use for weekly family schedule. Bottom board I put my 4 yo's daily schedule on one half, my infant daughter's schedule on the other half. These magnets are especially helpful for any caregiver to maintain the same routine--parents, gparents, nanny, backup sitter(s). Life can get crazy with people in and out. All they have to is look at the board. I can also text a picture to everyone in a jiff. These magnets are also helping my ADHD husband stay on target.

These magnets are great. There are a ton of different ones and cover a huge amount of activities. The colors are bright and the pictures are clear and easy to see. We used a small cookie sheet to stick them to and that seems to work really well. Our daughter loves having a schedule and follows it pretty well. Only issue so far is how to store and organize them because there are so many. We were originally tossing around the idea of making our own, but we are pretty lazy and wouldn't have come up with magnets that looked this nice. They are a little on the pricey side but well worth it.
