It arrived alive, mostly. It is now growing after its recovery. About as I expected. UPDATE: Turns out what we received is not Lemna minor, but Azolla caroliniana, a duckweed like plant. It produces a larger plant, though the young plants do look like duckweed. It is prolific. It is not quite a popular with the fish as duckweed, but it works.

How is that 2 cups? I was patient to wait weeks due to sad circumstance they said hurricane damaged their production. However when I got the completely dry baggie of product half was brown dead and it was about 1/2 cup. Oh well - the good thing is Duckweed grows like crazy. I suggest buy the smallest bag to start and grow it yourself.

I just paid almost $12 for 1/2 cup ( measured ) of half dead duckweed. It took over one week to arrive and whatI received was way less both quantity and quality than I expected. Half of what arrived in a squashed ziplock bag wasdead brown and purplish. The stuff did not smell yet but was close when I threw the whole mess into the stock tank behind the green house. What's left, may, or may not, even survive. If any of it survives, and grows to a harvestable batch, I'll feed it to the tilapia.I'd return this if I could, but what a mess. The vendor was no help at all, informing me that they always send the same measured product and their information saysit arrived in less than a week ... so tough luck buddy.Update: Less than one week later, in 62 degree weather and rain water in my 156 gallon stock tank, I have about 4 whole tablespoonsfull of sickly looking duckweed that I'm now afraid to feed to my fish.Read some of the other less than happy reviews. I should have done that before ordering this stuff.

I have ordered floating plants many times from at least four different sellers, with wildly varying quality. This duckweed is pretty clean, without too much extra 'pond stuff', to coin a phrase. One order I made was for Azolla, and the seller instead sent me glorified pond scum that continuously clogged my filter's intake tube in a maddening fashion. Daily clearance of this muck was needed, if the filter was to function. I should have removed it and complained, but my platies (aka little gluttons) love live plant food and it disappeared anyway. The muck was like long clumps of hair, but in plant form. I'll never buy another product from that outfit ever again. It makes me appreciate this seller a bit more. The description said 'about 2 cups', but it seemed more like 1 1/2. It seemed somewhat compressed in its sealed plastic bag, so that may have accounted for my perceived discrepancy. Good product, but not good enough for five stars.

I ordered this in November to a northern climate so the package was likely near refrigerator temperatures for most of the journey. It shipped in a zipper sandwich bag that was in an unpadded shipping bag. The duckweed seemed like it was pressed between paper towels before packaging and was neither dry nor dripping, so I suspect that the seller has learned from the negative reviews pasted on some of the other products. I smelled the contents of the bag and noticed nothing wrong at all. There were no more dead ones in the package than I would expect to see in a healthy culture, but I did notice that many many roots had snapped off due to the pressing and have settled on the bottom of the growing container. This doesn't seem to have had a lasting effect on the overall plants, and I can see fresh new growth after a week (the new growth is lighter than the original plants is how I come to that conclusion). This is the type of product that you could simply scoop up from the wild with a bucket so I was quite concerned about potential pond pathogens, however, this seems to have come from a deliberate and controlled culture. There was only one small insect larva that I found in the bag, but it had apparently died. There is a second species of plant in the bag, and I don't know if it will make a play for dominance, but I bought this stuff to grow for feeding to tilapia so I'm sure it will get sorted without much frustration. I don't know what the extra weed is called, but if you're interested in its description, it is about as thick as a course hair but easily breaks into segments about a half inch long. It has about 1 small curl coming from each segment, but otherwise best resembles a green eyelash.Since this ships from Florida, I recommend that it only be ordered in early spring and late fall to prevent cooking or freezing. If it doesn't deep freeze in your area, then add winter. Florida is only cool enough to ship these for a few months per year in my opinion.

Received my order and it was an unusually hot day and the stuff looked ruff with about 1/2 looking blackish.....rinsed it with filtered water and then soaked it in filtered water and waited a few days to see how it did. About 1/2 lived and was growing. I did contact the company to tell them about it, did not ask for more but did say that I was disappointed in only getting 1/2 the order live....customer service replied that they would reship...I replied to only send 1 Cup since that is approx. the amount that was doa....they shipped that amount and it looked great (our weather was better on this end too) and it is thriving!Put the duck weed in my tank with fish and it is doing fine, my tank to just grow duck weed is also doing great!Good product!Good customer service!I'm happy!

I say "so far so good" in the title because I'm slightly worried about the fact that I put a plant from an unknown origin in my turtle tank. Being that it is duckweed, it will be safe for my turtles, but still I'm a little worried about diseases. However, the stuff was very green and it seemed to be super healthy. If my turtles get sick and die, I'll be singing a different tune on here but until then, this stuff is awesome and my turtles absolutely love it. It also brings a more natural environment to the tank.
