There are no instructions in English. I got a very deep stab wound on my finger trying to open the packet which held the blade. Very difficult to assemble. Would not buy again. If you purchase be very careful.

Very difficult to figure out, no English instructions. Of course, ended up cutting myself while figuring out how to connect the blade to the stick

I might get a second pack of these just to have separate storage cases. I needed my husband to slide the blades onto their handles because my fingertips are dry and slick. Dampening them might help. For those of you who want replacement blades, look for #23 Steel Blades or #11 Steel Blades. You will find combo packs with other blade types, or 100 count packs, packs meant for surgery, for crafts, for decorative food carving as shown here, etc. I suspect the blades are manufactured in multiple places and are of different quality, but all are stainless, carbon, steel.

These two lames, with their pen-length handles, work so much better than the small razor-blade sized lames. They're far easier to hold, and therefore, to control, and to make the kind of scores you want to make in your bread dough. You probably really only need one of these, but they're of different widths (and slightly different length, as I recall -- I'm not looking at it right now), so that does allow a lot of versatility in terms of the kind of scoring you want to do on your loaf/loaves.Some reviewers have said that the blades were hard to get onto the handles. I didn't find that to be the case at all. Look carefully at whichever one you want to use, choose the right blade (the wrong blade won't fit at all) and you should easily see where the blade is to be placed on the handle; then just slide it down until its snug.I think, all the way around, this is a great design for a lame.

I am not a fan of the curved razor blade style lames, but these are nice, especially if you are wanting to make some designs on your bread. It's more of an exacto style. And the extra replacement blades are nice, and in a hard plastic case so no one accidentally slices their fingers.

Took a minute to figure out how to put it together but once I did. It works great

While putting on one blade, it had to force it on and cut my finger deep enough for stitches and lost feeling of finger. I do have experience doing this type of thing. It just was not well made.

This thing is amazing. I've been a baker (and cook) for close to 60 years, and I can attest that this little scalpel is a must if you're into baking breads, rolls, pan dulce Conchas, and so much more. I've always managed with a super sharp paring knife to cut the scores in the bread or pastries, but this scalpel is supreme. Use extreme caution per the instructions!
