Decent material and pattern, but the pictures made it look more gray than it really is. I was expecting a nice light gray on the cobblestones whereas the one I received looks black and white. This could probably work as a budget option for a winter scene, but will definitely stand out in a bad way for any other kind of diorama.

This mat has only been reviewed three times previously, giving one of those reviews...one I consider unfair...considerable weight in the 14 ratings. Why unjust? The reviewer downgraded the product because the material is felt, not rubber, and because it comes in a roll. The description states that the material is felt and the primary product photo shows that it is sold in a roll (as are all of the other mats I looked at). I'm glad it came in a roll; the other option would have been folded multiple times and folds are far more difficult to eliminate.I did consider several rubber products with the pebbles slightly raised and might have purchased one of them--if I had only needed 30” or 48" in length. But since I am creating a town square for my sizable village, I need far more. To acquire the same length that I got with this product for $9, I would have had to spend over $52 for one rubber version I considered and almost $58 for the other. In fact, this mat is so reasonably priced that I feared it would be thin and flimsy and would ripple along the edges. When it arrived, I was relieved to find that the felt is a firm high grade. Which brings me to the overall appearance...which isn't as realistic as I would prefer. While most of the rubber versions are also two-tones, they are brown and black so there isn't such a stark contrast. I remedied that quite easily by painting the strips with craft paint. I started with an overall medium-brown wash (basically adding a bit of water to the paint so that it would be transparent rather than opaque), then came back later with dark brown and gray paint applied in dabs and blotches. Because I was painting on a porous surface, I didn't have to worry about being too exact, so it didn't take that much time.I've included several pictures of the end result, which to me looks better than the strictly two-tone rubber versions. (Note that in these pictures the strips have been cut in half width-wise since I am using these for sidewalks.) One photo is a close-up of a strip and the others show the mat in my village. I think you'll agree that this mat is not only a good bargain but a very realistic approach to streets and sidewalks with help from some inexpensive craft paint.

It’s supposed to look like a cobblestone road, but when I put it in my Christmas billing, it’s hard to tell when it was. I just look like junk. It junked up my Christmas village. Took it off immediately, not even time to get a picture.

I bought this for out Christmas Village to make a road. It was worked beautifully. The material is easy to work with and wasn't paper. It's like a rubber feeling. It cut great too! I would definitely buy it again.

I don't understand the bad reviews. This stuff looks/works great. I ordered a different brand with a rubber back and hated it. Too thick, couldn't manipulate it. This stuff is easy to use, easy to glue into place, looks awesome.

The road is felt. I was hoping it would be more of a rubber. It came in a roll and needed a few days to flatten out. It still looks pretty good in my Christmas Village.
