It's a metal grate. I needed it to temporarily cover a hole in a concrete pad, to avoid a tripping hazard. It's not strong enough to be walked on by itself, but packing loose gravel in under it was enough. It would work well in installations where something stronger than mesh is needed, but is not weight-bearing.
