The 3B Scientific P56 human upper left leg model is used for simulating intramuscular injections. The model has realistic anatomical features for identifying injection points, including the patella and greater trochanter. The P56 has an electronic audio-visual feedback system to monitor and signal accurately administered injections, bone contact, or false localization, with a training mode for checking results immediately, and a control mode for delayed results. The model is made of silicone rubber, which is nonreactive, flexible, and resistant to high temperatures. Silicone is resistant to ozone, weather, detergent, salt water, engine and transmission oil, non-petroleum brake fluid, hydraulic fluids that resist fire, vegetable and animal oils, and high molecular weight chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons. Silicone is vulnerable to mechanical wear and tear, water and steam over 250 degrees F/121 degrees C, aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene), chlorinated hydrocarbons (trichloroethylene), acids and bases, and hydrocarbon fuels. Health education models are typically used as educational aids in medical and scientific classrooms and office settings.
