The JoySense rasp consists of four different files in one. The rasp consists of a sturdy steel rasp with a flat side and a curved side with two file types on each, one with coarse teeth and one with finer teeth. The file teeth are very sturdy and the files work extremely well in removing wood. With this design, it requires holding part of the file to use the other ones, so that's something you'll need to weigh, the benefit of a multi-function tool versus maintaining multiple rasps with dedicated handles. However, it's easily manageable with a good pair of gloves. Overall, solid rasp and will need to see how the files hold up over time.

I am currently not residing where my usual, long-loved tools reside and I had a project (a decorative box with pressed tin lid, and this lid has NEVER fit, which drives me a little nuts) that HAD to be done for good-temper's sake. I needed a rasp and/or file to thin down a wooden lip on the top of the box so the tin lid would properly close. So---I ordered this JoyoSense Multi-Functional Carbon Steel Wood Rasp at a very affordable price ($8.99 at time of order), and I am impressed with the build quality and with the effectiveness of this tool. It has good heft, the rasp is sharp, and the other side (which is closer to a file IMO) gives a great amount of control, just taking the wood down slowly and leaving a fairly well finished surface. My project box is by no means a work of art, but now the top fits and I don't feel irritated everytime I reach for it,lol. This tool comes in a vinyl sleeve, and is packaged in another vinyl sleeve with zip top and a hole for hanging. Whether nestled in your toolbox or hanging on your pegboard, this is an excellent, very use-able buy to have on hand for DIY.

As we continue to expand our woodworking tool collection, we decided to try this wood rasp.We were drawn to the convenience of having multiple sides—both flat and rounded—with four different levels of cutting teeth, which adds versatility to the tool. The rasp is made from carbon steel and is very well constructed. The tool itself is less than 8 inches in length, providing about 4 inches of working file space. One drawback is that while using one side of the rasp, you're holding the other end, which has carbon steel teeth, in your hand. This can be a bit uncomfortable during extended use. We strongly recommend a pair of work gloves when using this rasp.Overall, we believe this is a decent file for what it offers and is suitable for various projects. The key advantages are its compact size and the convenience of having four files in one tool. However, its small size means you're working with a shorter file length, and holding the other files can be rough on the hands. In conclusion, whether this tool is right for you depends on your priorities—if you value the convenience of a compact, multi-functional tool, this is a great addition to your collection. On the other hand, if you prefer larger files with handles, you might want to consider other options.Personally, were happy with this wood rasp and would recommend it. There's always a time, place, and project where this tool will come in handy, which is why we continue to grow our tool collection. Happy filing!

This is a short file, about 8" long, and each filing section is about 3 1/2" long. So if you're looking for a long file, this isn't it obviously. But this has both a rounded and a flat general purpose filing section and a rasp as well. That's handy combining them all into one, but I have two comments. First, because it's two-sided, this means you cannot attach a handle, so you have to grip the rough part opposite of the side that you want to use. Not a problem for a quick file, but it can be uncomfortable if you have to hold it for a longer period of time. It will bother some sooner than others. Second, because each filing section is short, you're limited in its use to small pieces because you can't have a long stroke. But the price is low, and if you rarely need a file/rasp, this might be the way to go for you.

For $10 I am very happy. This file is as good, if not better, than my more expensive files from big box stores. I used it to round corners and eliminate edges on planter boxes made of softwood and PT variants. It is very, very sharp. Its easy to get carried away with this thing; I actually had to be careful because it cuts through almost too easily. After 3 uses across 4 edges across ~25' of pt wood, it remains sharp and ready for more.

These aren’t fancy, but they’re rugged and they work. I’m happy.
