About this item

  • Made of Buna-nitrile (also called Buna-N) for use with a variety of fluids and hydrocarbons
  • Can be used across a wide temperature range from -30 degrees F (-34 degrees C) to 250 degrees F (121 degrees C)
  • Round in cross-section to provide a seal between cylindrical overlapping surfaces
  • Durometer (hardness) of 70A for resistance to penetration
  • Meets standards defined by Aerospace Standard AS568A

This O-ring is made of black Buna-nitrile, is round in cross-section, has a durometer of 70A, and is designed for use in a wide variety of sealing applications.

Buna-nitrile can have high tensile strength, and abrasion, tear, and compression set resistance. It can be used in temperatures between -30 degrees F (-34 degrees C) to 250 degrees F (121 degrees C), and is compatible for use with petroleum, HFA, HFB and HFC fluids, vegetable oil, alcohol, acids and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Buna-nitrile is vulnerable to acetone, ethers, esters, ozone, sunlight and weathering and should therefore not be used in ozone-generating electric motors, welding equipment, or in applications with exposure to UV light.

This Buna O-ring has a shore durometer of 70A. Shore durometer is the hardness of a material, and its resistance to permanent indentation. A higher durometer value indicates greater resistance to indentation on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 indicating no indentation.

O-rings commonly provide a pressure and fluid seal between cylindrically shaped, overlapping mating surfaces and are commonly seen in engines, faucets, flanges, valves, and various cylinders. They are circular in shape, with a round cross section, and a hole in the center, similar to a doughnut. O-rings are available in various sizes, and can be ordered based on required nominal inside diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), and cross-sectional (CS) diameter.

These Buna-nitrile O-rings meet standards defined by Aerospace Standard AS568A, which is the Aerospace Size Standard for O-rings.

I used these for a rubber seal on my old 80 xs1100 Yamaha motorcycle speedometer and tachometer and they worked and looked great. Original parts were obsolete had to improvise.

Using them for piston rings in a home made ventilator. Photos show. If you try this for a ventilator be sure to use food-grade silicon grease to lube the ring and cylinder. The cylinder is made from 10" of 4" i.d. PVC, and the piston is from the end cap of a 3" PVC, which fits nicely into the 4". The inside of the piston is a 1" piece of 3" PVC with a .07" depth groove routed to seat the ring. This is not too critical, and .05" may be better, but tighter in the cylinder. No interest in making money from this project. Cost me under $150. It's just in case someone close to me gets the covid and not admitted to a hospital, which my wife and I both had! So, if you want to try it you may well succeed. Mine does work.

I needed for my pool filter Pentair 35505-1425 O-Ring for Bulkhead replacementI ordered exact part number but thickness comes 3/4 so it does not seal so finally took chance on 3.5 cm and 1/4 thickness and now I changed two of those on both inlet and outlet of bulkhead ,no leak any more

formed a 4" abs pipe into the wall and then used the o-rings to make the seal for putting a 3" pipe through the opening.

I purchased these o-rings to replace a lot 0-ring that went on our garage mityvac oil exchanger that we use to add transmission oil to cars. The Mityvac website offers no support if you should loose this o-ring, We didn't want to purchase another mityvac as this one cost us $200. But, the o-ring was a perfect fit. I am so incredibly happy. The o-ring it's self is of a very high quality and should last the lifetime of the tool if we dont' loose it again LOL.
