I had a fence installed a few years ago with several gates. The installers used a pre-packaged hinge and hardware package to install the gates and the lag screws they used were only an inch and a half long. They ran these into the 1" poplar fence boards to hold the hinges on and since they were so short they didn't have enough length to go into the 6x6 fence posts. Over time the poplar fence boards have shifted slightly allowing the gates to sag which was one problem, the 2nd was we had some high wind recently and since the hinges weren't into the fence posts the wing caught one of the gates and it split the poplar boards where the lag screws ran into them. I replaced the broken board and then replaced all the lag screws with these longer ones that allow them to seat deeply into the 6x6 fence posts. I don't expect to have further problems with sag or wind ripping a gate off again.

The lag bolts are a quality item. The heads and threads are well formed and free of burrs. The reason I ordered these lag bolt is because of the Ruspert coating. The latest building codes require corrosion resistant treatment for fasteners coming into contact with pressure treated preservative wood. In the past, hot dipped galvanized fasteners have been used, but the hot dipped process leaves a rough surface and burrs on the fasteners which results in more difficulty and friction when driving the fastener. These lag bolts incorporate the Ruspert coating system which results in a smoother surface of the fastener, and with a properly sized pilot hole, result in effortless installation using a power drill or impact driver. I am going to use these type coated fasteners exclusively now in lieu of the hot dip galvanized fasteners I have been using for years now.

This was a package of 50 5/16" x 2" and 50pcs of 5/16" washers in a separate package. They are Black as shown in the picture with layers of ceramic coatings so they can be used outdoors and exposed to the weather. hey feel a bit lighter than I would have expected for a screw this size but it's difficult for me to say what they are actually made of.At .50 each they are more expensive than at my local home depot so I'm a little confused on whether there is something about them that justifies a fairly significant price hike. Perhaps it's the material? Or perhaps its the added coating on them. They are ASTM A307, ASME B18.2.1, and ASME B18.21.1 compliant - so maybe that's it.Lag screws generally are designed to handle significant weight and stress due to their size and coarse threads. They have a Hexagonal head that requires a socket wrench or similar tool to tighten. They are are a bit larger compared to other screws, and commonly used to securing deck boards to posts, attaching heavy beams to walls, etc. And, these clearly check everyone of those boxes.T

Professional Grade Lag Screws. These screws are carefully made, smooth and concentric with no warped, crooked, or jagged edges on the threads. They are coated with what appears to be epoxy paint which should last and last. On the screws which I needed to install, back out and then reuse, there was no sign of deterioration of the treads like you might see on a plain galvanized screw. Lastly they are smooth and easy to handle unlike galvanized comparable screws. Including quality washers of the right size is a nice touch since in saves hunting around for a suitable washer every time you need a lag screw. I like them, so I’m giving it my 5* rating.

I was able to use a DeWalt driver and use these into 4 x 4 post. These drove nice and did not slip. I’m not sure what grade these are, but the tops did not give and strip away. good quality excellent hold five stars given

Lag screw / washer Vine review. Brand: MAKERS BOLT.These black, exterior, 5/16” lag screws with the 1/2” hex head are perfect for some exterior clear reinforced tarp wall applications that I have. The 2.5” length is perfect for securing two 2x lumber together without sticking out the other side. Sometimes I need longer, when a 2x is getting attached to a 4x4, and sometimes I need less when it is just to only hold the tarp on to a 2x frame. And so the question seems to come down to: Can the electric drill holding the 1/2 socket fasten these law screws down tight or do the lag screws break under torque forces? My next application is over a month away, so I took a sample lag screw and repeatedly used the drill to screw it down tight into two stacked 2x4s as a test. My photos show the screw heads got wear because this test was done 4 times. There was no failure. I think that was a fair representation, as I have seen other lag screws, usually galvanized, just snap using this same drill and bit in similar wood. (Off off off with their heads?)It’s a 5 star lag screw, you will have to determine if this is a 5 star price for 50 lag screws and washers. Divide the price you see today by 50 to compare.★ Well below expectations.
