Have been using these to put a seamed edge on plate glass so they aren't sharp to the touch (cut glass can be like a razor blade). They work well for that purpose and I suspect on other hard brittle surfaces as well.

The pads on this set are on the firm side which helps to keep the thin plates from bending and also makes these easier to hold while rounding over edges as well as keeping them flat when needed. The foam will absorb water however since there are no holes in the plates the water absorbing quality does not contribute much to wet sanding. That being said these would still be better suited for wet sanding, especially the finer grits. With the diamond pattern on the plates it will help in removing any particles. Not really intended for fine polishing metals but should work well for ceramics etc. especially when the items will be finished with paints etc. These are a nice addition to my arsenal of sanding supplies for various projects I am consistently working on.
