When to change the cotton?
8 hours protection is a reasonable expectation of each filter.
When the user feels that the breathing resistance is obviously too large, the human body feels uncomfortable, or the filter dust is dirty or damaged, the filter cotton needs to be replaced.
Filter Box Using Period：
The worse the use environment is,the shorter the using period will be.Replace it immediately when you smell an odor or feel uncomfortable.

So apparently these are fraudulent niosh filters. "Fake chinese". That being said i work 8 hours a day pouring molten iron with gas and smoke wafting in my face every 6 minutes for about 2 mins at a time. I cannot smell anything. So i assume they are working?

They work, but they could be better with very simple modification. Most of the 3M masks are cheaply made, so you won't get a reliable seal. What you can do, and what I have done, is add rubber washers to ensure the seal between the mask and filter is good. Simply adding a rubber ring around that hole would make a huge difference. As-is, the filter is not 100% reliable.

I used these filters when applying lacquer and when using acetone. It was night and day compared to no filters. They were easy to use on my 3m mask and blocked all the fumes.
