About Camshaft Adjuster
A Camshaft Adjuster (or camshaft sprocket) for an internal combustion engine is attached on the end to a camshaft and acts as a transmission element to a drive wheel for the rotating drive of the camshaft, with an internal wheel locked in rotation with the camshaft and a coaxial external wheel that can rotate relative to the internal wheel.
This sprocket, along with the timing belt and the crankshaft sprocket, is responsible for maintaining the timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft. It is similar to a pulley or gear, though unlike a pulley, it has ridges along the outside, and unlike a gear, it does not come into direct contact with another sprocket.
