Bought these when rebuilding the cv axles in my Super Beetle. Crimps the factory style clamps perfectly. Much better solution than the ‘band it’ style clamps/tools I have used in the past

Having replaced the CV boot with a universal split boot on a gen 2 prius, this was the pliers another mentioned to use to get the proper bite on the clamp. Takes quite a bit of force to get a solid lock and requires a decent amount of squeeze on the handles. Couple this with the angle you may be handling this at and the effort might exceed your ability. I was able to get it done but might consider using a washer and nut tool that self squeezes with a drill making an easier automated result. The pliers will work fine though for a quick fix.

Some say this tool bent during the first use, but no issues here. Two clips installed successfully.

This CV boot tie crimper is absolutely outstanding. It connects to both sides of the tie strap tightening “bump”. However, it not only crimps the bump, but at the same time it flattens the bump and you’re done. I have a Porsche Boxster and there was a very small space to get the tie/strap installed. This tool made the job easy and done right. I highly recommend it!

To start with I'm a master tech with 29 years experience so I know how to use this tool and how it should work. I was very disappointed in this. I purchased this to replace my Lisle version of it that Someone had 'borrowed' and didn't return. As soon as I opened the package it looked poorly made (the handles are uneven as well as the clamping jaws ends are not level), but if it worked as designed I would easily get over that. It wouldn't grab the CV first boot clamp I tried this on. The jaws kept slipping up the crimping tab on the boot clamp. I had to resort to using a pair of wire cutters to crimp the clamp. I just ordered a Lisle 30800 CV Boot Clamp Pliers because I need a tool that actually works. Saving $16.00 on a cheaper tool was not worth the aggravation it's failure to perform caused. Time is money...

They're serviceable. But the jaws were not ground properly, so they don't crimp as well as they should.

Nice product, not too expensive, considering I will probably not use it often. Seems sturdy, and did the job. I had to buy a another pair also, because these are a "straight" crimper pliers (jaws in-line on the end) and sometimes because of obstructions, you also need 90 degree crimper pliers (jaws on the side). I think for unobstructed bench work, these would be all you need. Maybe a shop doing several rebuilds a day, would wear these out, but as I said, not too expensive to replace now and then. There is a square socket in each leg. I guess it is for applications that require a torque wrench.

These are very well made heavy duty crimp pliers. They properly crimp the crimp loop and then push down on the crimp to 'lock' the crimp in place. There are 1/2 inch square holes so you can use two 1/2 " socket wrenches with extensions if you need the extra leverage or you are working in a hard to access area. These are long so you do need access for the crimper. This is a well made tool at a reasonable price.
