Use of high quality oil that is free of contaminants means less chance of damaging sensitive vehicle electronics. These air filters are washable and reuseable, so proper maintenance is key to maintaining their performance. Always use oil with these filters as its' ability to protect your engine is severely compromised without it; the oil acts like a magnet to attract dust, and causes the cotton fibers to swell to capture larger particles. Paired with the aFe POWER Air Filter Cleaner, you have a complete air filter restoration solution.

this is a really small can of oil. Does the filter once, will not completely do it a second time. Also, it'd be nice if the can was labeled for the type of oil or the type of filter. I have several.

aFe claims that their oil is different from other air filter oils and tells you that you can only use their oil. I have no way of knowing whether this is true or not, so I use aFe oil. This oil is far easier to dispense than the drippy plastic bottle of oil other kits contain. It also is easier to get an even amount of oil on the filter media. When it first comes out and has either a propellant or thinning agent in it, it is much thinner and wicks through the filter quickly. Once the other substance evaporates for a few minutes, the oil is thicker, like the bottled oil.I use a liberal amount of diluted Simple Green to clean my aFe filter. Here's a YouTube video of that: [...] After rinsing well I dry the filter by drawing air through it with a small fan. Drying still takes a few hours, but is safer than using heated air, which will cause the fibers to shrink, leaving gaps for debris to circumvent the filter. I then use and this product to recharge the filter with a light, even coat of oil. I let the filter wick the oil for an hour or so to make sure it soak throughout the media. After that, I check it for dry spots by shining a flashlight through the filter, checking for places that are still white and not yellow. Then I either add more oil to the dry places or put the filter back in my truck if all is well. I can oil my filter 5 or 6 times with this spray can.
