I LOVE this net. The collapsible nature of it makes it handy for throwing into a backpack and going out collecting. I've used it for dragon flies, butterflies, wasps, bees, you name it!The netting material itself isn't notably strong. In one example, I've tried to go for a dragonfly resting on a nettles bush - only to find the dragonfly buzzing away, and me trying to coax my net from the thorny bush. This was purely operators error and not the fault of the net, but equally useful info for if you're planning to use this in dense brush. With a bit of white thread, a needle and some diligence you can patch up holes rather easily! My only real gripe is the diameter of the net. It doesn't quite form a full circle, but rather an acute ellipse like shape. If you look in the product image of the net, you can see what I'm talking about. That's not the angle in which they took the picture, that's actually how the net is shaped.Take that as you will, but the net is functional and otherwise just what I needed.

My daughter LOVES to catch butterflies (& moths) in our yard. The toy nets are WAAAY to small of a net to catch butterflies safely without hurting their wings. I found this net and was so excited to give it to her for her birthday in June. She loved it and it is a very nice net. The handle collapses into itself and the net is perfect size.Unfortunately, after only 3 uses the tip, narrowest end of the net, the stitching started to unravel. Why, I do not know as that part is not being handled, but nonetheless renders the net useless as anything captured can now escape...hence an unhappy girl.I am stitching it myself, but how frustrating it is to pay for something, expecting there to be quality and pride in the finished product...so I do not have to repair the purchased item within 1 month! At least it can still be used and otherwise is fine. However, the fact that the stitching can be mended, does not make poor quality acceptable...please check the stitching on your nets.

So. Guinea pigs + time = flies. This thing works so much better than fly swatters. You don't need to wait for 'em to land, or get bug guts all over the place.Just use this net, and scoop 'em right out of the air.The net is nice and wide, the construction is rigid, and the act of scooping up more flies just pushes the ones you've already caught deeper into the net. Then a little trip outside, and turning the net inside-out, and the flies are no longer a problem.

I received the net and had immediate use for it. There were some wasps that got in our sun-room, and I am allergic to their stings. So I opened the package, but found no instructions. But, I found it to open up the collapsible net ring. I had a little difficulty unlocking the extension handle, because I sometimes am not too bright. It showed twisting the blue collar to the right to unlock and to the left, to lock. I could not move that ring. What they mean, I found, is to twist the lower handle clockwise to lock and counterclockwise to unlock while holding the net or upper shaft. With the unit ready to go I caught all the wasps and put them back outside. Some people have said they don't like the long net, but I think it is great, as you can catch lots of bugs (Insects) at one time and they can't escape. I think the quality of construction is very good for its intended use. But if you play play dog catcher with you dog, as I did, it may not last a lifetime. If you like a shorter net, you can just knot it to the length you want. All in all, I am happy with this unit, which can be stored compactly, is light weight so even kids can use it, and it is fairly strong.

This net is a great substitute for fly swats when a few mosquitoes or annoying flies make their way into your house. The typical fly swats will leave squashed bug marks on painted interior walls and I somehow often miss killing the bugs although I hit them directly. With this net, I can catch them in midair or simply place over the bugs with its large 14" opening. I keep getting hornets and bees into the house as well, so a tool like this is invaluable to catch them safely. It's surprisingly hard to find a decent insect net at retail stores, so I'm very happy that I took a chance on this Amazon purchase despite seeing a few negative reviews. So far, the net is holding up fine and it's very light to swing around. I doubt it'll break unless I misuse the tool or hit something hard inadvertently. At this price, I'd just get another replacement if I somehow end up breaking it since I love it so much already. If I see a bug, I can catch it now whether it lands or not!Update 12/2013: The net held up fine through many uses and I was able to use it to rescue two birds already. One was a hummingbird that just couldn't figure out how to get back out of my car garage hovering around the garage ceiling, and another incident was for a Carolina Wren that built a nest on my front door wreath. The wren flew inside the house when I opened the door in the evening, and there's no way I could've caught her safely if not for a tool like this. You should definitely have one of these around with long extending poles, even if not for catching insects.Update 9/2016: Two more hummingbirds rescued from my garage recently. The poor things would've died if not for the net, which is still working fine.Update 9/2017: The telescoping lock mechanism finally broke despite my gentle very purposeful use for the last several years. For the 10.50 price I paid back in 2013 I feel that I got my money's worth. However, it certainly puts me at a pause to see the price inflated to around 25 bucks for a replacement order at the moment. Unless the net had been significantly improved which I highly doubt, I don't feel it's worth over double the cost I originally paid, so I'm taking off a star. This lightweight net is useful for gentle applications by adults for occasional use, but it probably will not last long at all when used by a child or for sustained heavier use. I'm going to patch it with a duck tape and wait for the price to come back down or search for an alternative.
