This SHYNYX sundial compass arrived in a poorly packaged and dented box enclosed in an Amazon envelope, so my first impression was that I had received a piece of junk. The brass and copper seem somewhat thin, although closer inspection and use reveal the instrument as durable overall. The compass is well-calibrated, and the sundial functions as described. Its antique look makes it attractive to display. It’s certainly easy enough to ask AI for help in using it, but including a basic instruction manual for neophyte timekeepers would be a helpful touch. The product description says that it’s perfect as a gift, assuming that the round, form-fitting leather case (with an unfortunate cardboard bottom) would be used for presentation. I’d suggest that the company create a case worthy of the instrument and include at least a rudimentary gift box for it as well. It’s reasonably priced compared to what seem to be similar-quality portable sundials.

This is beautiful and a great as decor or a gift for someone who loves sailing/history. It is functional and looks accurate. I love the case that it comes in - it looks warn but is made out of nice material. The compass itself is also made out of good material and it can be opened or kept shut. The details are beautiful. This is a great item for the price.
