Product Description

Aoyue TY-98 waterless soldering iron tip cleaner

The Aoyue TY-98 is a waterless soldering iron tip cleaning solution that uses brass coils to easily remove excess solder and flux residues. Simply plunge the iron into the cleaner to stop your tip from smoking with corrosive flux that can damage the tip if not cleaned off. The brass is a soft metal so it will not damage the metal tip plating even after many uses. The TY-98 is also designed to be highly compatible with Aoyue soldering stations and soldering iron holders. It includes mounting hardware for attaching to a variety of these devices for left or right-hand operation. When you've used up all sides of the coils, they can easily be replaced with our refills. Start maintaining your tips the smart way with Aoyue!

Waterless soldering iron tip cleaner

Waterless Tip Cleaning

Prolong the life of your tips by not shocking them with water every time you need to clean flux off. Since it won't reduce tip temperature, you can keep working!

Indent for soldering iron to rest on

Indents to Rest Iron

Enclosure features two small indents that are perfect for resting the soldering iron if you do not have a proper holder. There is also an articulating carrying handle.

Compatible with Aoyue stands and stations

Compatible with Aoyue

Attaches to Aoyue soldering iron holders using included metal bracket and hardware. Can be mounted several ways for left or right-handed operation. Works with Aoyue 469 platform as well.

Reusable with refillable brass coils cleaners

Re-usable with Refills

When the cleaner gets dirty, simply flip over or replace with our brass coils refills. The brass is a soft metal that will not damage the tip but will clean off excess solder and flux.

How to Clean Iron Tip Using Brass Coils

Step 1

Plunge the hot soldering iron into the brass coils but not too deep because you will hit the bottom of the container and risk damaging the iron tip.

Step 2

To take it up a notch, you can twist the iron with your wrist and fingers to help get all sides while cleaning. Try not to keep jabbing the same spot as well. Move around to disperse the solder and ensure an effective cleaning.

Step 3

When the solder and flux build-up starts affecting cleaning, flip over the coils and use the clean side to extend the life of your cleaner.

Benefits of Brass Coil Cleaners

  • Waterless cleaning solution
  • No risk of thermal-shock to the iron
  • Indent on enclosure for resting iron
  • Relatively inexpensive maintenance
  • Longer-lasting soldering iron tips
  • Won't reduce tip temperature

There seem to be some fake brass sponges on the market. You can tell if it’s fake because a magnet will stick to it. A magnet will NOT stick to these sponges and they clean the soldering iron tip perfectly. Great purchase.

I have had this for a while but it slips on table when you use it so I screwed it to a small board to make it a bit heavier so it wouldn’t slide around so much.

These worked until they get a bit dirty then messy. I'm still out on whether they are better than the old wet sponge and fast tinning method. Get extra scrubbing balls!

This is what you need for successful soldering. Forget the wet sponge and use this instead. This is better than the round one with the hole on the side that you chase around the workbench.
