I wasn't expecting much from these tops. I was not let down. Of the 12, 6 didn't light up and 1 was broken. I can only figure the batteries are dead already. No instructions were included in the box. Hitting them harder like the instructions I read in the description does not make them light up. Getting them to light up requires spinning them as level as possible. As soon as they start to wobble, the light goes out. My kids got more frustration than fun.

Three of the tops did not light up at all. Several others required adult to spin to light up.

These tops are great fun for kids. They love them. After I bought them and distributed them to the children, other teachers asked me to order more, so that they could use them, too.

Ok. Yes the lighting up is hit or miss. Theres a small spring inside that contacts a wire to create a circuit with 2 small watch batteries. The spring might be closer or farther away per top. The main point of these is that they spin really well! Compare the description of these tops with the other wooden ones. This is the description they are all badly translating! These tops are pretty durable (the 3 we use stopped lighting up but they havent shattered yet) and I really can't emphasize enough how great these spin. This is just what we were looking for to play with our daughter.
