About this item

  • Micro-serrated blade to grip material for non-slip cut
  • Sharp blade to shear fabric easily (made from high carbon steel from Japan)
  • Grips designed for comfortable repetitive cuts; ambidextrous
  • Non-serrated blade can be sharpened to extend life
  • Extended tang for durability and efficient force transfer

These shears are ideal to cut materials made from aramid and para-aramid fibers such as Kevlar, Dyneema, Vectran, Spectra, Technora, Nomex, Innegra, Dacron and other materials made from fiberglass and carbon fiber in rope, ribbon, thread, tape and fabric form. Its blades are made of high carbon alloy steel from Japan and are infused with Molybdenum and Vanadium (HRC 60~62) through a proprietary manufacturing process to achieve a level of hardness (HV1200) to cut high tech material. It can be used to cut materials made from carbon fiber, glass fiber, plastic, canvas, vinyl, leather, suede, leatherette, nylon, silk, cotton, for upholstery, headliner, cloth, string or other knitted forms. To cut composite-grade materials is a very difficult task. These 5.5" shears are meant for precise and clean cuts into the material. They can be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process so reinforcements precisely fit in the mold. Or cut stubborn threads hanging off the edge of fabric. Or make small cuts for intricate parts. The cutting performance is great across the length of the blade; in fact, the blades cut all the way to the tips for quick and accurate trimming. They can also be used to make relief cuts during the lay-up process to fit the reinforcement into the mold. Also used for splicing all type of halyards, sheets, topping lifts, lazyjacks and control lines. Cut hanging fibers along the cutting edge of the fabric cleanly. Cut fiber thread off the fiber optic cable neatly when installing connectors.

These shears are preferred by fiber cable installers during the process of fiber cable preparation along with Ascend Tools' 3-hole Fiber Cable Stripper (ASIN B0CFNN1696). Also preferred by marine riggers, rope manufacturers and aviation technicians.

Looks small, but it does the job. Good for on hands and serrated cutting edge, does a clean cut.

I work a lot with epoxy and I can be tough on scissors. As a result, I've tried numerous scissors rated to cut kevlar cloth. The Ascend scissors are by far the best and a good value too boot. I am always surprised these smaller scissors out perform larger and supposedly more ergonomic brands. The Ascend blades also hold sharpness much longer than any others I've tried. I've also found these scissors useful for cutting synthetic ropes, especially the higher end lines.

The shears cut well and are durable. They are not great for cutting gel impregnated carbon fiber. They cut both thin metal and woven cloth fiber with ease but are not exceptional.

I use this to cut Kevlar cloth and Kevlar cord. It is quality made and robust in its steel construction. One side is a smooth blade. The other side has very fine serrations. Boths sides came sharp as a razor. The scissors cut easily through relatively thick Kevlar cloth and also Kevlar cord that I have.

These should actually be called “EDC Scissors,” useful for any application. Small, handy, tough, and sharp. EXCELLENT quality steel! When it’s cold in the morning you’ll use them to cut wire and in the afternoon you use them to turn your pants into a pair of shorts!
