About this item

  • Unique side-address stick design maximizes placement options with minimal obstructions
  • Uncompromising sound quality for overheads, percussion, acoustic guitar, strings and other acoustic instruments
  • Integral 80 Hz HPF switch and 10 dB pad
  • Durable performance for professional applications
  • Cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of desired sound source

One of the new stars of the Artist Series remake, the ATM450 cardioid condenser offers an innovative side-address stick design for endless placement options and minimal obstructions. The microphone is equipped with an integral 80 Hz hi-pass filter that provides easy switching from a flat frequency response to a low-end roll-off. The ATM450 also features a switchable 10 dB pad that lowers the microphone"s sensitivity, providing higher SPL capability for flexible use with a wide range of performers and system configurations. The microphone"s extended flat frequency response makes it ideal for high SPLs as well as for live and amplified acoustic instruments. Includes a professional isolation clamp to provide secure mounting, versatile positioning and effective dampening of unwanted mechanical noise.

I have been using this microphone primarily for recording acoustic guitar in my home studio. The microphone sounds great, and holds up well to my AT4050 (large condenser studio workhorse), perhaps with a little less clarity and low end response. For $249 this microphone is a steal. The ATM450 appears to be not as well known and I have not seen it recommended much for acoustic guitar as some of the more commonly known small diaphragm condenser mics such as the Sure SM81, Rode NT5 etc. The ATM450 deserves all the credit as a great mic in the below $500 price category in my opinion, at least for acoustic guitar. I have also used it for stereo recording (unmatched, small & large condenser), with great results.I purchased this microphone after doing quite a bit of research on microphones for recording acoustic, and while this is ultimately a personal choice, you will not be disappointed.PS: I have been using the ATM450 with a really nice preamp (RNP).

great price for a great mic- This is a nice flat sounding mic with great positioning capability and good SPL rating- sound pretty good on everything- not the greatest low end response but good for close mcin.
