When this works, it works very well. It does a good job of opening jars without damaging the lids. Unfortunately, it is pretty frustrating figuring out how long to press the button in order to have it actually work (and not just slowly retract back to the open position). I suspect this is an issue with the instructions and not the device itself. It is worth figuring out, but harder than it should be.

This jar opener so far has opened everything I tried it on. This is slow waiting for the claws to grip the jar. It takes getting use to how long you have to hold the button. If not long enough when you release the button the grip arms it will reverse motion back to the start point. This is not intended for soft plastic containers. Out of curiosity I have used this on plastic peanut butter jars, and plastic mayonnaise jars. I have had complete success so far. I did have a couple where I thought it would not be able to open. You can hear it building pressure to open the lids. I had a couple it stopped making noise and I was wondering if the batteries were weak. A couple seconds later a loud popping sound. Yes, the lid was opened. This is amazing and ideal for anyone with weak or injured hands.

This is a life saver on weak hands. I struggle with carpal tunnel so some days, opening jars is very difficult. This has worked on a variety of sizes, from the very slim jar I get sun dried tomatoes in to the large peanut butter jar. It is very easy to use. You just set it on the lid and press the button. Thats literally it. It does take several minutes to open it. And it is very loud. Don't use this if you are trying to sneak a midnight snack! But this is really a great tool for anyone with any type of grip strength or hand mobility challenges.

So this doesn’t explain much on the website, but this thing takes two AA batteries that goes in the end of it once you put the AA batteries you set it on top of your jar and you hold the green button what it does is it sits there and shrinks itself down till it fits itself on the lid and on the jar. Then proceeds to start turning the lid and at first we thought it wasn’t going to work because it just was making noise, but it wasn’t doing anything, but this was a hard jar to open. As soon as it got that loosen though it really popped and sprung open. And it will keep turning it as long as you hold the button so you can turn it and keep turning it until you have it loose enough to where you can open it yourself once you let go of the button and opens itself back up Slowly. We tried this on a jalapeño jar that’s pretty big and it fit it fine. And then we try it on a big jug of olive oil and it actually got small enough to do that one too. I don’t think it would do smaller than a giant jug of olive oil and it definitely won’t do as big as my coconut oil jar, but it almost does. This actually gets to pretty good size big and small this is pretty handy. I have issues with opening jars with hand strength, and I wanted to find something that I could use to open jars myself instead of having to depend on my husband always opening it.

I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re tight on storage space, as it’s fairly large. There are smaller, more compact alternatives, like silicone jar gripper pads that are thin and easily foldable. That said, I’ve struggled with stubborn jars before, even considering breaking the glass in frustration. This jar opener worked surprisingly well, easily gripping a variety of jar sizes, though it’s a bit noisy. I’m lowering my rating by one star, though, because when I first pulled it out of the box, I got some kind of oil on my hands, which was pretty gross.

First thing to know, this is a noisy little dude, but that isn't a deal breaker. I went on the hunt for an unopened jar to test this one, then the face palm - no jars have been bought in a few months because they've been so hard for me to open these days, brutal painful to grip much of anything; the few that have been bought are already open so, . . . My next option was to crank something down to over-tight, something I'm notorious for, in spite of/despite the pain - for some reason(s?) it is very hard for me to tell how hard I'm gripping/squeezing - but anyway. Short of a proper canning process boil seal, I can max out the threads if I hold it twixt my legs and tighten with both hands, it's tighter than I can loosen by hand anyway - and this device popped it right loose like it was nothing. I think there may be a few jars of the larger sizes that this may not open up far enough for, but those are probably rarer than not outside of a restaurant/ at home. Now that this is on deck, I can stop avoiding foods in jars at the grocery store.
