When we refinished our front door, we loved how this replaced the exact same door knocker that had been on our front door for 35 years! It is heavy solid brass all the way through.

I went with the Imperial version because it was larger. It looks great on my front door. It's not US made however which was disappointing but It's very heavy and the coating appears up to Baldwin's original standards.

This Baldwin door knocker replaced a 25-year-old Baldwin model with the same dimensions which had become badly tarnished. Its box indicated that the product was made in China, a real shocker. The Lifetime Finish seems to be acceptable, but the casting quality is substandard compared to older model. The screw mounting holes were not flush with the base of the body, and the included screws were about 1/8" too short. Therefore, the writer was forced to polish the old screws and reuse them on the new knocker. The mechanism which holds the knocker to the base isn't engineered as well as the older model; only time will tell if it survives multiple knock-knocks and Buffalo winters. Other casting flaws are immediately visible when comparing the vintage and new models.One hopes that Baldwin isn't also outsourcing its locks to China.
