This part is rated to the OEM temp for my 5.3 Silverado. My previous thermostat was either too low of a temp rating (bought it used so maybe aftermarket) or was failing open. Fixed issue of fans staying on.

Yes, they do the same thing. They have the same fit, finish and what looks to be operation *(all current indications are that it's doing what it's supposed to be doing). It just 'feels' better. Like metals are supposed to be on motors, not plastics. Given the option, make it a metal housing for something important like cooling fluids.
