When I received this, I was afraid that it wouldn't fit my 6yo daughter, but it fit her perfectly. At first glance, the beard appeared to be attached much too high to work, but it was perfect. This probably wouldn't fit a child much older than 7yo. The beard on this one doesn't detach, but she is able to wear the hat comfortably by tucking the beard flush against the inside. My 9yo daughter got a different style beard hat (same brand) and the beard is removable (attached with velcro).

I purchased this for my 4 year olds birthday. She wanted a beard so that she can look like a man when I take her to the bank. It seems to be a pretty sturdy hat. It is a bit large for my 4 year old but fits on her nine year old brother. In other words, it fits according to the items discription.
