I was pretty sure I was going to be disappointed with this kit, but I was quite surprised with how good it was. It was shipped well and the instructions were easy to follow. I used everything out of the box, even the strings. Originally I was was going to use the body and neck and replace everything else. I ended up building out of the box just to see how good or bad everything was. The tuners feel good and the bridge intonation is solid. The pickups and pots are clean and noise free. Honestly kind of blown away with the end result. It sounds great! I was shorted a few screws for the tuners, but was able to get some from the hardware store.

This kit is a good quality kit overall. The body is sanded and ready to take a finish, the neck is solid and the composite rosewood well done. The bridge and tuners are also decent quality (though I bought a Fender fat bridge to swap out on mine). It was fun to do the finish and get it ready to hook up.Where this falls apart is the electronics. On mine, the tone knob was loose and I had to pop the knob off to tighten the nut (something many newer players won't know how to do, as easy as it is). That doesn't matter anyway because the tone knob is also...decorative. As seen in the above photo, NOTHING is connected to the tone. The red wire, it appears, SHOULD be, but it doesn't even have bare wire exposed to solder it on. The wiring is also exceptionally weak, low-gauge wiring and the wiring itself looks off - some of the grounds are not soldered where they should be, for example.I purchased a set of Seymour-Duncan SPB-4 pickups to put in this and will simply be de-soldering everything to wire them in. That is a shame because this SHOULD have been a 10-minute job of cutting two leads and splicing in the new pickups. Instead it's a major project. For that alone, this kit loses two stars.IF, however, you have the know-how to fix poor electronics (which isn't rocket science), this is a solid pre-cut kit as a starter to build your own P-Bass.

I am a Novice. Wanted to build this so I had a better knowledge of the guitar. Well packed, good woodwork. Spent a few days with sandpaper and wood lacquer to get a nice finish. If anyone has found a good set of instructions out of China, I would like to know. Some important omissions. Some electrical problems solved by BexGears. Finished product works well and look good. However, when finished you will probably have to have it set up properly at a guitar shop. There are a lot of adjustments to make it work properly.

The BexGears bass guitar DIY kit is a good deal. I am a beginner, and I built and set up this bass myself and I learned a lot. Changing the strings helped with intonation, made it sound better and it now holds tune very well. I've no opinion on the pickups but it sounds good to me. But I will say the way they are setup with springs and screws seems a little odd to me, but I guess that’s the way it is done. The tuners are decent but I had to drill a hole for the string guide. The rest of the holes were drilled correctly. The frets will need some filing/sanding. I polished mine and they turned out great - use painter’s tape to protect the fret board. I lined the control cavity and the backside of the pick guard with copper tape and I have absolutely no hum. I stained mine and it turned out pretty good, be sure to sand away ALL the factory finish or the stain won’t soak into the wood. I finished the neck with pure tung oil and it is smooth as butter.

Love the weight of the body and the neck is smooth. I sanded down the body to smooth out the roughness. Added a natural golden stain followed with a satin finish poly coating. The assembly was pretty straight forward although the instructions were a bit inconclusive to specific details. There was a missing mounting screw for a tuning pod but not a deal breaker. Electronics so far are pretty solid, changed out the strings that came with DR Black Beauties. The pickups sound awesome, maybe need different ones one day.

This is an amazing value for what I paid! The hardware is good quality. Tone is nice and warm. The wood is beautiful! Really enjoy making this bass my own.

My husband found this and wanted it, out youngest boy is a huge guitar player, & when the hubs found this he wanted to do it as a project with our boys and start playing again. We have a friend who does hydro dipping so he’s going to be able to completely customize it to all his own. Best Birthday present he thinks he’s ever gotten ( not sure if that’s a bad call on my widely duties or not.... lol) it’s an amazing project for a man and his boys to build up. And I can honey say we got it a whole lot quicker than what it originally projected as well. Thank you!

The bass guitar kit had everything I needed to put it together. It didn't come with instructions but was super easy to build. Its plays very well and sounds terrific. Its lightweight and comfortable on the shoulders.
