Went from power steering to manual steering on a 2000 jeep wrangler 2.5l with the manual transmission. Wanted simple.. Got it. Worked fantastic...less squirrelly...easy steer with factory tires. Required new pitman arm. Would buy again if I needed another for sure.

I bought this steering box for my 1983 Chevy Monte Carlo. The car came standard with power steering; and I wanted to convert it to manual steering. Many posts on several forums all provide information regarding the use of a Chevy S10 manual box. However, nobody gets specific as to what is the model of steering box that will fit.Sorry, but "go to a junk yard" is not always the best answer. Some of us would rather use new parts that we know will work rather than play junk-yard-roulette... Not to mention that you are not guaranteed that the junk yard nearest you will have a Chevy S10 that still has the manual steering box in it. And do you really want to trust a used gear box from some online auction site that is the same price as a new one? After months of research on the web forums, calling various online car part vendors (both are in Ohio, you know who they are), and finally taking the chance that my calculations would not result in having to return the "wrong" part; I bought this Borgeson 920010.It fits perfectly. The bolts that hold it to the frame are a slightly tighter fit than the power steering box. Take your time, finger-tighten them a few turns before using the ratchet, and everything will work out.So, to sum it all up: if you have a G-Body and are wanting a manual steering box; this is one that will work. Will other brands, models, work? Maybe. But this one is a definite fit (...at least for a 1983 Monte; but it should work for the rest of them too).
