I'm adding this review as general-informational for probably all these kinds of passive/non-powered mics and I hope it helps some people. I bought a "4K Ultra HD" camcorder here a year ago, typical of a lot of these (about 100 bucks) and the camera works just fine, no trouble so far. However, the outboard mic went dead on me recently so, per camera seller's recs, I another one (this Boya). Why these outboard microphones quit so much we shouldn't bother asking (cheap junk), our world. BUT, this Boya also made no effect on the audio of the camera either, right out of the box. I mean pretty much zero, so I returned it. Now the informational part:Having a very good little PA with a handy headphone out jack (1/8, 3-pin stereo, just like for camcorder input), I ran a cable from the PA headphone-out into the camcorder mic input and voila! Massive audio, big enough to distort on the video recording, but loud and clear all the way up and down the volume range. VERDICT: These passive camera mics that grow these "didn't do anything" reviews like weeds do not have enough power to drive the camera and vice versa. They just aren't sensitive-quality enough as a passive mic. The PA I have is 200 watts and will rattle windows, the signal I put out of the headphones was probably at least 20watts and that's what it took to show up decently on the video. Obviously the camera can handle the input signal volume, very nicely for a cheap camera I'd say. But either the camera can't put out the voltage or these cheap passive outboard mics are not sensitive enough to respond to what little voltage these cameras put out. So if you have a regular small-battery camcorder, if you want good audio I woudn't bother using ANY mic but a powered one, and if you need really good audio, I run it direct out of some quality gear like my Behringer PA direct into the camera. Good luck.

I need to set the mic amplification level to the lowest value to get rid of the noise. I am not sure if it is the problem with my device or with this model. Tried on Windows, Linux, OSX, and sony camera. The noise exists on all of these platforms.
