Product Description

Machine Thraeding Taps

Applications

Straight flute design, made of 6542 high speed steel. It is used to process threads of various through holes or shallow blind holes. Blind holes cannot be processed. Can process copper, brass, A3 steel, aluminum, cast iron and other materials.

Generally used in conjunction with tapping machines, integrated bench drills, CNC lathes, machining centers, etc. Manual processing is also possible. When operating, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, the higher the hardness of the processed product, the slower the speed.

About This Tap:

  • Type: Straight Fluted
  • Measurement: SAE
  • Accuracy Class: 2B
  • Material: HSS 6542

Straight Fluted Tap

Straight Fluted Tap

Suitable for machining materials with powdery chips. Through hole or shallow blind hole can be machined.

Spiral Point Tap

Spiral Point Tap

Suitable for through holes, the chips are discharged downward. The machined thread surface is of high quality.

Spiral Flute Tap

Spiral Flute Tap

Used for blind hole machining, chip removal upward, good chip removal effect, no residual cutting.

Tips

  • Please be sure to take protective measures when working, you need to wear goggles and protective gloves.
  • Before tapping confirm whether the diameter of the round hole is appropriate. Be sure to select the appropriate cutting oil for the complex tapping process and apply anti-rust oil for maintenance after use.
  • When tapping, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, it is necessary to add water or coolant to cool down to prevent excessive temperature and reduce tap loss.

I used this as a gage when I was thread milling internal threads. I did not use it to cut threads just as a gage. nice quality tap.

Did the job nicely cutting through 1-1/8" chrome molly tubing with 1/4" wall thickness for making my own drag link and tie rod end. I was fortunate to find this size since the tube and its perspective diameter center is just what was needed to tap without drilling the required 5/8" hole. Make sure to use plenty cutting oil, also being sure to only turn the tap wrench about a half turn, then back/reverse it out until you feel the crunch of the cut material releasing, add more oil to each side of the cutting tap then another half turn until finished. I also removed the tap at the halfway point and blew of the gobs of metal debris, then it finished nicely. If your making your own drag link, you must be sure to purchase left and right hand threaded taps since the tie rod ends must be done this way to function/adjust correctly.
