Buon rapporto prezzo/prestazioni.

My old JPWs having finally given up the ghost after 28 years, I was a bit trepidatious about having to acquire much smaller speakers in order to meet my budget. My apprehensions were proved unfounded though with these gems from Cambridge Audio. A doddle to set up with my existing banana plug speaker cables fitting straight in with no problems whatever, and my (also nearly 30-year old) Creek amp feeding them superbly. With these speakers I'm hearing tiny little micro-sounds from my synth music favourites such as Tangerine Dream and Steve Roach that I've never heard before. I may be taking up the option Cambridge provide (in the box contents) of inserting foam bass tuning bungs into the provided ports as the bass is a little boomy compared to what I'm used to- but that's just personal preference and may be a function of the speaker location. Overall I strongly recommend these speakers.

Everyones system and room setting is different so I can only speak to mine. These speakers deliver a kick that I haven't had before. I'm sure there are better and more expensive speakers out there but for me they are perfect. Listening to jazz, rock, samba on my record player and they sound excellent. At a quarter of the way up on volume and it's loud. When I do increase the volume they deliver without compromising the sound.

These are quality speakers at an inexpensive cost. They are clear and crisp and add nice bass, but for the best bass effect I recommend a sub woofer separate from the speakers.

Note: This review is for the SX-60s with Walnut finish. Currently the SX-60s are not available on Amazon and this review appears under the SX-50 listing. Furthermore, it appears that Cambridge Audio is discontinuing their Walnut finish and opting to go for a generic black finish to combat issues with finish-consistency. Look for SX-60s in black on Amazon in the future. If you look closely at the edges of the finish you will be disappointed. I am not disappointed by the sound though. These have enough oomph that I haven't felt the need to pick up a subwoofer for my TV. Fair warning though, I am not a basshead by any means. Still, a budget subwoofer (Klipsch RS12W) at Costco right now costs $200 and only goes down to 35hz and these speakers hit 41hz so really not too bad in the bass dept.

This is a phenomenal set of speakers. Everything they say in their advertising is true. I would have been appalled if you had told me I would spend $3,000 on a pair of bookshelf speakers. However, over the last 3-4 years, I have bought 10 pairs of $300 speakers. Some just for fun, others out of curiosity, and some out of desperation for an elusive satisfaction. These speakers have ended my search. I'm using these in a 9x10 room, music only, no subwoofer, stereo system. These reconnect you with the emotion in the music. As the company says, their goal was to add nothing to what the artist intended. It's hard to describe the speakers in audio terms. To me, they are not warm, or bright, or even neutral. They just play the music. You pick up the passion in the music. It saddened me to read a professional review which said these were functional, not special. It makes me wonder if the reviewer actually listened to the speakers, or just looked at them. In my opinion, their specialness comes from being functional. The music is the show, not the speakers. I will say that when I need a new cd player or integrated amp, I will buy the offerings from Cambridge. It won't bother me at all to have all components from one company. Well done, Cambridge Audio.

Surprisingly good bass response for their size. I have these paired with a Yamaha CRX-N560 for bedroom use and together they make a great little compact system. Definitely the best pair of speakers I didn't build myself; it would be hard to build something sounding that good for the price. Be aware that the finish is fake wood - it's more or less convincing, and it looks good, but nothing more than that.

Pros--clean and simple finish (great look with grilles off), more sensitive than my old bookshelfs, nice price compared to other large speakers from KEF, Dali, Canton, and Monitor AudioCons--a little port chuff (sounds like a rattle) when really loud, heavy bass causes powerful air movement. I took the foam plugs from my Bronze BX2 speakers and the rattle was fixed with no obvious change in sound. It would be nice if the foam plugs were included with these SX-60s.Other thoughts--I am using a diminutive Denon M39 receiver to push these babies and they make for a great upgrade to the stock Denon speakers (which are about half the size of the SX60s). I also tried these with the NAD D3020 amplifier and got a similarly wonderful sound. Compared to the stock Denon speakers that came with my receiver, the sound is much bigger overall, the bass is heavier (enough to fool you into thinking there's a sub), and the mids and highs are clear without seeming muffled or shrill. I use this system to listen to anything from glitchy EDM breakbeats to SoCal punk rock to classic Jazz and Blues, all to great effect. They look awesome in my front room and despite how wonderful they currently work, I look forward to trying them with bigger and better amps.
