This upper headset features the innovative Clip-Seal that shields the bearings from contamination while capturing the compression ring. It uses black oxide sealed bearings for longevity and is cross-compatible with 40 and 110-series headset parts. Cane Creek's 40 IS42 upper assembly comes in the color black and fits 28. 6mm, otherwise known as 1-1/8-inch steerer tubes and you have a choice between a tall 15mm or short, 9mm stack height. Please note that this is an upper assembly only, you will still need an appropriate bottom assembly for your frame. Also this headset comes with a star fangled nut for use in a steel or aluminum steerer tube. If your fork has a carbon steerer, please use the compression plug that came with your fork or purchase one separately.

Sure you can buy cheaper and maybe get by with a discount headset. But if you're looking for top-shelf materials and manufacturing from a trusted brand...buy Cane Creek. Affordable, reliable and performance to match. My choice (for years) when it comes to a headset.

For the price its hard to beat this headset the cane creek 40 is the bare minimum for any bike but its also totally adequate for a one and done deal

Forced to upgrade my bike's headset due to being unable to get the crown race off my old fork. This headset was a little more in cost but I feel I got what I paid for. Cane Creek makes good bike products.

Cane Creek 40 = Toyota-esque no frills high-enough performance at a reasonable price. In other words, good stuff, perfect for those of us who buy our own parts.This top assembly doesn't turn as effortlessly as previous ones I've bought (thus no 5 stars) but if it loosens up in the next 6 months (which I expect it to) I'll change this review to 5-stars.

I consider the Cane Creek 40 the standard to compare other headsets to. The bearingsare very smooth and the seals are so well engineered to keep contaminants out thatyou will be hard pressed to make a better choice at any price. I don't know how Cane Creek surpasses thiswith their 110 series but if you want the best then go ahead with the 110 but you will never be disappointedwith the 40 for its precision and great seals.

Third 40 series I used to build up new bikes and they are great, would never buy a different headset. Reasonably priced, look good, and work great. Sealed cartridge bearings are soooo smooth.
