I smelt gas coming from underneath my stove top and purchased this to check the piping and fittings. It worked perfectly and was able to tell me exactly where the pipe had a leak and after doing a “soapy water” test, it ended up being the same exact spot. This is extremely accurate, easy to use, and I think everyone should have one to keep themselves safe. I’m very lucky that this helped me confirm the leak so I could fix it.

I purchased this in June 2024. We’ve had two instances when the stove was inadvertently left on and was not lit. When we came home the house stink of an intense gas smell only to find our gas detector reading zero. The unit was placed two feet from the stove so it was completely useless. Don’t buy this piece of junk. Will not protect you.

The item works great and is simple to use. Used it to check for a propane leak in my home and luckily didn't find one! When testing the functionality using my propane stove, it alarmed me right away of the gas.

Can’t beat it for the price. Flexible and piece with a light, is great. Sensitivity is also fantastic. A definite buy if you have any sort of viewing gas you’re concerned about, including checking for gasor exhaust fumes in your garage.

After a panicked night calling the fire department to find a gas leak in our house, they thought it likely we had a very slow leak behind our stove and recommended calling a plumber. The plumber couldn't find a leak, but charged us hundreds of dollars to say so. Worried about my family, I purchase these gas detectors. One for downstairs and one for above the stove. (I also purchased a wand detector and discovered the plumber hadn't known how to use his correctly, but alas, no refund on his botched services.) Through trial and error, using the wand detector, we learned that one stove burner was leaking gas only while it was in use. These detectors also picked up the rise in gas levels every time we had that burner turned on, even before we could smell the gas additive ourselves. We were able to clean the faulty burner and make it work properly again, but I'll continue to use these gas detectors for peace of mind. It could happen again.

I had a leak on the natural gas supply line to my furnace that I could smell gas but a soapy water solution didn't find. I ordered this gas leak detector and it indicated a leak at a flare fitting the same night I received the detector. (The leak was on the bottom of the fitting, so maybe gravity did not hold the soapy water against the leak???) I tried cleaning up the flare connection, but it still leaked. I replaced the flex hose supply line to the furnace and the detector says no more leaks.UPDATE: We also had a gas leak around our natural gas dryer. The detector showed a tiny leak at a threaded fitting where the natural gas ties into the dryer that again did not show up using soapy water. I fixed that leak but there was still a gas smell in the laundry room. I disassembled the dryer (not as bad as it sounds, but I had never done so before.) Sure enough, my gas control valve was not shutting off completely and a little gas was leaking through the "closed" control. The part is $140, so my 39-year-old dryer is being replaced. This is a cheap but effective diagnostic tool. MUCH BETTER THAN SOAPY WATER!!! I am a happy boy!!!

I have been dogged by leaks in my propane system all winter. Pulling my hair out. Every time I turned around I caught a wiff of gas. Out with the soapy water in a squirt bottle. One would expect it is impossible to miss a leaking joint with this method, but it is possible. This meter identified a leaking joint that I thought I had previously hit with a squirt. Turns out I had missed it. And this meter found it. More careful squirt and sure enough, bubbles. I couldnt help myself and I tested every joint, including the ones that I couldnt easily reach to fix. Found 2 more smaller leaks in locations that fortunately were accessible. Bendy neck works great! Word to the wise, hold your breath or breath away from the probe, because for some reason my breath triggers the sensor. Maybe the pandemic has rendered my breath permanently flammable or maybe my breath really is that bad. Idk. Just dont breath on it so you dont get a false reading. Battery life is Meh. I checked like 50 joints at about 10s per joint and the battery light comes on after a few seconds now. Would have hoped for longer life, but oh well. Summary: cheap, finds leaks, doesnt come with batteries, dont breath on it, batteries dont last long.
