* One of those things you will find uses for all the time* Can be a faster option compared to making a template by band sawing to a drawn line then carefully sanding and filing to get your shape.* Often it is hard to get it fit exactly to the line you draw so you still may need touch up after.* It is particularly useful for making complimentary templates, e.g. for bent lamination cauls, etc. For example: a) clamp down a template for lamination glue-up; b) place some material about the thickness of the laminations you want to glue; c) hold this orange thing tightly against the material and one by one screw it down. It is much easier than dealing with router bearing offset calculations, etc.* I use #4 3/4 screws as someone else here mentioned* It arrived in a large box and arrived in perfect shape--no pretzel or twist as others have complained about. The above said, I have to knock a few stars off because it is WAY overpriced. It should be about $15-$20 max. I can't believe the price is listed here as $50 knocked down from $80. There are some other cheaper options on Amazon that probably work just as well.

I purchased this to create router templates for various projects. With very little trial & error I was able to successfully create plywood templates.Easy to use, bends appropriately & works great to easily create a finished product.

This is a great product albeit a little expensive and comes with no instructions.I used 20mm size 3 countersunk screws and was impressed and how easily the head sunk into the material without damaging or deforming, there has sufficient grip to press a router against it with flush trim bit.A liberal use of clamps allowed me to create some complex curves before screwing down. One word of warning if your not careful and paying attention you can over run the profile and dig a nice big slot in your wood..... use a clamp to mark the stop position trust me :-)Overall this did exactly what I needed it to do and did it well .

This is a very useful tool, although I really wish it was a little stiffer material. It's just a little bit too flexible/maleable which causes it to not sit flat making it a bit of a pain to mock up and nail down. It also doesn't form an absolutely perfect bend unless you are very careful. A big part of the problem may be the packaging of it originally and the fact that it came to me in a small box wrapped in a circle several times and then the end was fed through the circle to hold it together which caused the material to have a bit of a seemingly permanent twist to it. Perhaps if I took the time to nail it down flat and then lay a board over it and put weight on it to try and force the material back true again it would help but I haven't put the time into it yet to do that. I think they would be MUCH better off packaging this so it's wrapped in a perfect circle and not wrapped around itself and then put in some plastic to hold it together rather than feeding the end through which causes so much twisting of the template itself. I'd give it 5 stars if it didn't have that annoying twist. Overall I just use my old ruler and pencil to mark a perfect curve and then form and nail this down off of that. It's really made a couple curved shelves I'm making much easier and quicker to rout over and I highly recommend it overall. There may be better products like this out there but they are likely a fair amount more expensive as well so I am pleased with it overall.

I have always had trouble making a smooth arc on wood. This product makes it so easy it amazing. You will need to get some small screws to secure it to the template material. I used #4 X 3/4" to hold it at the shape you want. I then mark a pencil line and cut about a 1/16 of an inch proud of the line then either use a router table or handheld with a pattern bit and trim a very smooth curve. If you have a band saw you won't have to remove the flexible template to remove excess material before routing. Since I don't have a bandsaw I carefully removed the template, cut away the excess then carefully rescrewed the template back on with the same screw holes and routed it clean. Finally a product that really works.

Yea, it's expensive for a piece of flexible plastic, but if you make a lot of forms and templates, this thing really has a place in your shop. At least for me, the worst part of making a template was the step where you need to bandsaw close to your lines then sand the master template to it's final shape. The more complex the curves, the less you can rely on the spindle sander, and the more to need to work with rasps, small files and lots of bunched up sandpaper. With this little bugger, it's possible to completely erase that step, at least on the majority of things. Then as the photo shows, take it to your router table and use the pattern bit to get yourself a perfect master template on the first attempt.Draw your pattern on whatever you are using, MDF, Plywood, Acrylic, whatever. Then just lay this on the lines and screw it into the template. I use 3/4" screws, and they make a very small impact on the template, which really, doesn't matter at all. I used this on my last project, and I really enjoyed skipping my least favorite step of template making.Expensive, but consider the time savings. Highly recommended.
