Used on carbon steel and it does a nice job. I keep a container of oil for dipping the file in when working with steel and and stainless steel. if using for wood it would be aggressive and more difficult to clean with a card file.

I am retired and do not have a well-equipped shop, so I have to find simple ways to solve a problem sometimes. I had built an Arduino-based device to measure the water volume in my pool, and I had attached it to the lid of a plastic enclosure. I needed to cut notches in the edge of the case to hold grommets for the two cables: the USB cable for power in and data out, and the 3-wire cable from the flow sensor. I cut those notches, one circular and the other oval, with this file. The thin case edge would have been very difficult to cut with a standard round rasp, but the diamond dust on the file was ideal. My only problem was that the soft plastic handle kept coming off in my hand.

Some of the outermost grit comes off when you first use it. After that, it cuts uniform, just not as aggressive. I was using on normalized 5160 and 80 CrV2 steel which should have been no problem for diamond grit. It's about what I expected at this price.

This came quickly and was well packaged. I got it to make some cuts in a glass bottle and it worked well for my purpose.
