It’s not a deep black but dark grey. Others had noticed it too but I hoped it was a bad dye lot.I’m sure the thread itself is fine. I had wanted to use it for blackwork together with other truly black threads, but the color difference is too strong.Large pink spool is this thread, small spool a typical black thread for comparison.

I ordered black. Not black - charcoal. Either it's faded or just not dyed black enough. I'll use it for dark grey needs only.
