Bought this to replace a old and leaking rack. Always had great results from this brand of parts but mechanic said this has to be a joke! Said worst product he has ever seen from this brand. It’s a rebuild product and also had water with some oil come out this product to his amazement. He spent a full hour just cleaning up this part flushing it out and after installing it it sticks when turning. The only reason I told him to use it because the other was leaking badly. So that’s why I gave it a two star instead a one but this is not what I expected from this brand or the mechanic!!!! Horrible quality to get when purchasing a part!!!

Shipping took longer than expected ams it arrived several days after it said it was delivered. After all the parts I had ordered came in I had everything installed. I have had nothing but trouble with the steering rack I received, it leaks worse than the one I had before and it has a horrible popping sound when I go to turn the wheel. At first I thought the leaks could have been from the lines where they fit into the rack but after replacing them two it still leaks. So I tried to contact customer service to no avail because none of my calls were answered so I send them an email through Amazon and they said sorry it's been over the 30 day period since i placed the order and if I wanted to I can pay to send it back and pay shipping for a warranty exchange.

The rack and pinion arrived with some oil residue on the outside near the shaft and plugs. I thought this might be a bad sign. I went ahead and installed it. I filled the power steering container with one bottle of fluid then started up my truck. It began to leak immediately without me knowing. I added another bottle since the level went down and it lasted a few seconds before being empty. I looked under the pickup and there was a puddle of fluid. I really needed this truck fixed since my son drives it to college. I'm disappointed but will return it. That 500$ new one looks good about now.

This Detroit Axle rack and pinion was about 1/2 the cost of one from a FLAPS. AND they paid shipping for both the new (they are actually rebuilt I'm sure) and the core return. I've only had it in for one day but it seems to be working fine, if a little stiff. I think it will loosen up with a little time.

If you have never put in a rack and pinion it is a PITA....But this is a very good system. fit right up to my truck. The only problems I had had to do with the old lines. My advice replace all lines, and the tie rod ends when you replace this. You don't want to be halfway into a job and need to run to the auto parts store to get a new line or tie rod end....
