One of the things that drive (us all) crazy is accidentally bumping the edge of the little trays and catapulting gems everywhere. This stops that from happening, plus it keeps your colors you're using in one place instead of having to make room to move them around. Plus it helps keep track of what color you're using because there's that circular hole where you can put your baggie or container with the # on it. I'm using 3 shades of dark brown right now, and there's no confusion which one is which while using this tray. I'm so glad I got it!

It's a great concept but not sure how foam would hold up overtime. This gives multi color use but after completing a third painting, you realize you need a concept like this but with slots for multi sized larger trays. Every painting comes with these little green trays so having 12 more isn't practical. Maybe include lids to prevent spillage & the ability to remove & store making this a functioning multi use apparatus. This is something to consider for the beginner although a vet will find great use, it's just the issue of sturdiness, efficiency overtime may make one consider, is it really worth it to have.

I bought the 12 slot (3-tier) for my diamond painting project and I love it! It is made of foam, but very sturdy, plus the tiers make it easy to use and pull colored diamond trays from while you are working. It also keeps everything organized and does not take up much workspace. This has made my diamond painting more enjoyable.
