These guards provide excellent coverage and protection. Very durable. I took a fast ball from a 12 year old right in the shin first game out and barely noticed. Great price as well.

These guards fit well, stay hooked up and seem quite comfortable after wearing them for 10 or 12 games. I give them 3 stars because this weekend a catcher got crossed up in a 19U tournament and I got center punched middle shin. Nice swelling and bone bruise going on so the protection appears limited. I add to that I train Muai Thai and do shin conditioning so my shins are used to blows while uncovered, this kept the shot from hurting but I imagine someone with less impact conditioning would have walked it off for awhile.

Comfortable. Extremely protective. Slightly bulky (due to the extra knee plate) under the smittys but they go under. In the heat at the end of the game you smittys will grab a little at your hamstring/guards but I'm happy with them.

I really love these leg protectors. They give adequate coverage and are comfortable to wear for the 90 minutes to 2 hours that you are behind the plate. I wear these under my plate ump pants and against my skin. They do insulate well so prepare to sweat, but you'd get that from any leg protector. They dry pretty quickly so even putting them back on for back to back games isn't gross.

Very lightweight - However, Very sturdy and high quality. I'm a very picky guy and these really did exceed my expectations.Don't spend over $100 on Leg Guards and think your getting the sturdiest ones. These are great from Youth, High School and College!- I am 6'1, 200lbs and the 17'' fits great. (Hope this helps for a sizing guide)- The extra toe protection is a perfect fit as well. You can wear these Leg Guards without wearing and spending $100 on Steel toe umpire shoes.Do order from Amazon,

These shin guards are great...have taken numerous balls off shins, ankles, and kneecaps and didn't feel a thing. However, they run pretty small. Definitely worth ordering the next biggest size.

I replaced my 7 year old Honigs with these Diamonds. I loved the Honigs, but the binding on the edges were wearing burn marks on my calf. I have used these Diamonds throughout fall ball this September and October and they are dong great. The burn mark on my calf has healed, and hasn't shown ANY signs of irritation after having the Diamonds on. They are fairly light, too. I was a bit concerned about the top guard (upper knee/lower quad) being obtrusive with the extra strap above my knee. But, so far, they have been very comfortable. Easy on, even with my pants on, and the J-hooks stay connected, so I'm not having to check them all the time. The iX3 padding seems to do a good job of keeping things cool and dry. But, obviously I won't know the full details on that until next June or July, in the middle of the heat.So far, I'm very please with them. Good protection. Taken a couple of bouncers off the shin and felt nothing. I do like that elongated instep pad, too. That's a nice touch. Helps with those foul balls that come off at crazy angles and bite you. You'll notice they also come with a removable foot guard. I have no earthly idea why. Anybody who gets behind the plate without protective plate shoes (steel or carbonate toe, and channel guard) deserves what they get, cause the removable footguards aren't going to protect you from one that skips in and gets you on the front of the toe. But, that's a minor detail. I just took them off as soon as they came out of the box.Nice guards. I'd recommend them to anyone doing anything up through college level. I think you will be pleased with them.Update January, 2014 - I really hate to say this, but I replaced these Diamonds last fall. The metal hooks, the rings, and the rivets all developed severe rust out so fast it wasn't even funny. I have never had a piece of umpiring equipment fail me this fast. I really did like them. They were comfortable and did a good job of protecting me. But, the metal looked like it was about 100 years old and was barely 2 years into service.I will say that it is possible that it's just my sweat that is so acidic that it caused this metal to rust so badly so quickly. If that's the case, then I guess I'm an isolated case. But, if that's so, why did my Honigs last 7 years, and why has my other equipment not rusted so badly? I tried getting in touch with Diamond and they weren't interested in helping me since the product was out of warranty. I will remember their "help", I can tell you that.Sorry. But, I have to update this review and say that you should probably look at other shin guards over these iX3's..

Did a lot of research on umpire shin guards and found these consistently had excellent reviews. Checked Honig's, Ump-Attire and several other umpire outfitters...After deciding I started checking prices and was amazed at the price Amazon had...With shipping I came out less than most others offered as a base price. The quality is excellent considering I do high school and adult men's league work and the weight and fit are great. Recommend buying larger...I initially bought the 15" but the return service by Amazon was top notch and I upgraded tothe 17"...I could not be happier, nor feel safer. Highly recommend this product.
