If you have a salt water aquarium this is a must have tester. It's accurate and simple to read. I use it for my brine shrimp tank. Very good quality and value for the price.

This little handheld saltwater tester is well made and very convenient. Easy to use right out of the box with user-friendly controls. I also tested this against some saltwater strips I already had and this device matched the results very well. Very happy with the quality and convenience of this saltwater tester!

User manual says this pen tester is factory calibrated and that should be sufficient for regular use. If further calibration is needed, powders for making PH calibration solutions are provided. More, that calibration for EC will automatically calibrate for TDS and Salt, though no powders or solutions are provided for that purpose. These pens are primarily EC testers. TDS and Salt are computed from the EC reading. EC and PH are also related but in a more complex fashion. Not clear how PH is being measured or calculated. The pen is easy to use and the display is clear and easy to read. Without calibration, the pen measured SF water within the parameters given by the water company for PH (somewhat alkaline) and TDS. Salt isn't given, just sodium and chloride separately, though these pens calculate Salt from TDS. Testing with lemon juice and 5% white vinegar gave PH values reasonably close to the expected. In short, my sample was adequately factory calibrated for purpose.I got this because people have reported that the water at the family cabin has gone "off". Given that the cabin uses well water and has a septic tank with drainage field, there are concerns about that. Testing (and professional help) will have to wait until someone makes a trip up there with this and other devices. Off odors and taste can be caused by naturally occurring bacteria in the water, plumbing, or water heater, or by natural chemical and breakdown processes in the ground and rocks.

At a recent visit to my dentist, I was told that my teeth are developing cavities, and a big factor could be the pH of the water I drink. I never really thought about that being a factor, but my dentist told me that I should drink alkaline water (pH higher than 8) to protect the enamel on my teeth. So, I decided to get a pH meter, and this one had that capability, plus lots more. In addition to pH, it also measures total salinity of the water, plus Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). This helps to see if your water has too much salt or is otherwise too hard (too many dissolved minerals). I now can measure my drinking water to see if it is safe for my teeth, which is great! A very nice and accurate meter, worth the investment.

I used this to analyze my water yes, but what I really got it for was to check the PH of my home-made hot sauce to make sure it was shelf stable level of PH (under 4).Works great and quick, nice tool! Recommended.

I ordered three different units to test against each other. This one came with calibration chemicals and batteries already installed. This meter took a couple rounds of the calibration solution process to actually seem to be within spec. I'm not sure if that was something I was doing or not, but I did not have that trouble with the other ones I tried? Once calibrated it tested correctly against the chem kit I was comparing it to. The display was clear and easy to read.

This pH pen is well packaged in a save box and comes with clear instructions and also calibation packets. That is a nice bonus because usually they do not include that. The pen is waterproof and has a top lid that screws firmly in place. It has a rubber gasket to seal the battery compartment. The screen is large and bright green. Very easy to see in a dark room. The meter reads the solution quickly. You can easily check your tap water, swimming pool. and garden solution with this pen. Very versatile pen and a must have in a large commercial garden.
