I bought a "used" one from Amazon, but it wasn't used. It just had been returned. Saved $40 doing that. And even at the regular price it is still a couple hundred bucks cheaper than Autozone. The shaft is an exact fit for 2003 Mustang V6 base model. It went on easy and matched the old part. This does have a coating to protect it from rust that the original part did not have. I had a "POP" when turning the wheel but it only did it every once in awhile. After narrowing it down I found this to the culprit. I didn't find much online about how to install it but all you do is 1. Wrap your seatbelt through your steering wheel so it doesn't turn too much. 2. Locate the bolt on the U-joint under the steering wheel and remove it. It is a 10mm. Then you can slide the shaft out of it. You may need to turn the wheel some to access that bolt. 3. Climb under the car and remove the 13mm bolt that connects the old shaft to the steering rack. You will need a punch and a hammer to get it to pop off of there once the bolt is out. You may need to turn the shaft by hand a bit to access this bolt. This will require the front wheels to be off of the ground on jack stands. Then the whole thing can just slide from inside of the car to the outside of the car through the boot behind your brake pedal. I loosened that boot but found that I did not need to do that. In case you do need to it is an 11mm. When putting the new part on I found it to be easier to start by connecting it on the inside of the car first and then connecting it under the car last. You will need to crank down on the 13mm bolt pretty tight but if using an impact wrench be careful not to break it off. I found that tightening it by hand was not too bad. I used the impact to remove it but if you don't have one you can still get it off of there. Just use some penetrating oil and let it sit for a bit. If you also need a bolt it doesn't come with it so that is a dealer item unless you can find the part number. I do not have it because my bolt was not messed up or rusted even though the part itself was pretty rusty. Fixed all the play in my steering. And it fixed my POP which is never a good sign. Overall I think it is a perfect fit and best price. Glad I bought it. Got some peace of mind. A high quality replacement part. You cannot find the original. It is discontinued.

Fairly easy install and the black coating is a plus for protection against weather and elements. Direct fit for 99 mustang gt. No more steering dead zone. Advanced auto parts want over 500$ for this exact part!
