This electric yarn winder is so easy to use. I had the manual winder which was hard on my arthritis in my hand. I love my electric winder. Just sit and watch it do it's thing.10 + rating.

Easy to put together. Lovely cakes. However, some cakes were pretty large. Doesn’t take a lot of tension to stop the spinning. I do enjoy it very much.

I was really excited about this yarn winder, but unfortunately it doesn’t quite live up to expectations. Firstly, it is powered by a USB cord and not from a mains supply, so the spinning is quite weak and it just does not have enough force to unwind a purchased ball of yarn while winding it into a more crochet-friendly ball. It just kept slowing down and stopping and generally having a lot of trouble unless I manually unwound the yarn first and fed it into the machine (which made my arms ache, negating the purpose of the winder). It also did not wind even balls of yarn, certainly no where near as good as my manual winder, instead it kept winding weird double-balls of yarn that just get tangled up in use. If you have a large ball of yarn to wind, then it does eventually corral the yarn into one single and fairly neat ball, but this is only disguising the weird peanut shaped yarn in the centre. Appears cheaply made, the tension screw did not make a difference at all and the disc that keeps the strand of yarn in position was wobbly, kept coming undone and therefore letting the yarn out. Usage involved a lot of unwinding, rewinding and stopping the machine every few seconds when the tension/tangle alarm went off. The machine also does not have enough power to wind yarn any faster than you would by hand, and certainly not as fast as a manual winder. The only good thing about this was that when the yarn did get tangled, there were no oil marks from the cog mechanisms as there is with my manual winder, and it can (eventually and with a lot of messing about) wind much larger balls of yarn, including 16 oz balls. Cannot recommend at this time.

I have a few large balls of yarn that are very loosely wound, and very annoying because large loops of yarn slide off the ball and get tangled. Rewinding them into a manageable ball manually takes forever because it’s a very fine textured yarn, and each ball is over 800 yards. I decided to try this winder out with one of those balls to see how it handled the task, and it was amazing! The winder does a really good job of untangling the yarn as it winds, and creates a snugly wound ball that doesn’t fall apart the moment you touch it. When I slid the ball off the winder, the hole in the center closed up nicely without making a loose mess of the yarn. It also stops when it meets resistance, so you don’t have to worry about the yarn breaking. Overall, I am seriously impressed with this winder!
