When may the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid valve need to be replaced?
- The engine runs very unevenly
- High fuel consumption
- The car won't idle until it stops
- Engine indicator light comes on
How important is it to replace the VVT solenoid?
If the engine lamp CEL of your vehicle has code P0010, P0011, P0013 or P0014 faults, please replace (VVT solenoid valve) as soon as possible to restore the lost performance.
Easy To Install
- Step 1 - Unscrew the oil cover, take away the engine trim cover, and then cover the oil cover.
- Step 2 - In the spark plugs beside the two buttons, gray indicates the input solenoid valve, and the other is the output solenoid valve. Use a screwdriver to pry open the plastic sheet.
- Step 3 - Open the plastic sheet, unplug the plug, take out the damaged solenoid valve, and then install BLPextrm solenoid valve.
- Step 4 - Twist the sleeve, insert the plug and cover the plastic sheet.

I bought the Size: 917-011+917-012 for a 2006 Nissan Frontier back in late September of last year and they have worked fine up until recently. It’s currently march of 2025 and I have a consistent oil leak on both Vvt solenoids. The one on the passenger side is unfortunate because it coats my alternator with oil and so now I have had to replace my alternator.The gasket is well made and the product fits but it’s not a very good quality solenoid and so I wouldn’t use this for a long term application, I would use this for a short term “I’m in a pinch” situation because truthfully you’ll want to just spend the extra money for a quality part with a warranty.Otherwise you’ll face an oil leak that will develop and then eventually you’ll find yourself paying for a $300 alternator or a $80 one from the scrap unit.

Perfect fit as described. I installed these on my 2011 Dodge Avenger Express and experienced no issues. The repair is very easy to do yourself and I highly recommend attempting it before spending a very large amount of money at the mechanic or even worse, the dealership!

BlueDriver reported VVT Solenoid issue after receiving check engine light on 2003 Toyota Camry XLE. The old part broke in half on removal and the inner part was removable with a 12mm x 1.5 tap. The new part, although not OEM, had the same appearance as the replaced part. Oil was also leaking with the old part and that seems to be resolved as well. All good so far.
