The EMAD Design
The EMAD series bass drum head is named for the externally mounted adjustable damping system. This system allows each player to control the attack and focus of the drum head by choosing one of two removable foam damping rings. Choosing the thinner foam ring allows for punch and focus without sacrificing resonance, while choosing the wider foam ring maximizes the low end and attack of any bass drum. The EMAD system is available in a variety of options including single and two ply, and clear and coated versions to accommodate each drummer’s preferences.
Level 360 Innovation
Evans is now offering the EMAD series of bass heads with its revolutionary Level 360 technology. With Level 360, Evans has made it easier to tune and get a wider tonal range from your drums than ever before. Applying this new collar shape to our EMAD bass drum head allows it to seat itself properly and in turn provides a head that is easy to tune and a sound that is studio ready.
EMAD Options
The EMAD line is comprised of a variety of options with varying thicknesses, plies, and coatings. The original EMAD is comprised of a single 10 mil ply and is available in clear, coated, and the Evans Onyx choices. The EMAD2 is made up of a 6.5 mil ply and a 10 mil ply for added durability and is available in a clear option. The GMAD series takes the single ply construction of the EMAD and adds extra strength by using a 12 mil ply. The Evans EMAD Heavyweight rounds out the line with 2 clear high-performance 10 mil plies. The EMAD Heavyweight is designed to withstand heavy hitting and provide maximum attack.

I have been using Emad and Emad Heavyweight batters for the last several years and I love them. I decided to try the Gmad and am really glad that I did. As great as the other ones are the Gmads are even better. I put it on my 26 inch Ludwig Classic Maple kick, tuned it just above the wrinkle, put on my favorite kick pedal, and gave it a good test run. With no other muffling besides the foam ring that comes with the head, it sounded enormous. Deep, punchy, and without too much overtone, it sounds incredible. I would highly recommend these to any drummer that wants that great bass drum sound they have been after. This one delivers!

Wenn man ein Bassdrumfell NUR in der original Umverpackung verschickt, kann das gut gehen, muss aber nicht.Das Fell war nicht mehr zu gebrauchen. Dann musste der Rückversand auch noch vorgelegt werden und man bleibt auf einem Teil der Kosten sitzen.. Sehr ärgerlichDas Fell an sich (habe mir es jetzt anderweitig gekauft) ist sehr empfehlenswert.Aber am Besten in einem anständigen Musikladen kaufen...

Love the sound. It seems to be the sound I am looking for. Pretty durable for a single ply head. Sadly since I use a lot of double bass I am basically stuck with regular two ply head use but, will use for recording.

a single ply of 12mil film that delivers increased low end, punch and power when compared to traditional 10-mil single ply heads. Ideal for heavier hitters looking for a solid sound and more life to the head but prefer the feel of a single-ply.

I grew up old school, using pillows, maxi pads, tape and everything else to get "that" sound. The GMAD lowers the boom. This drumhead offers 3 different levels of muffling. None, thin and thick ring. They all work great and provide a DEEP, solid punch. You get a kick that sounds bigger than it is. Evans should make this for 26" kicks.

WELL FIRST OFF IVE USED A LOT OF DIFFERENT BRAND DRUM HEADS OVER ALL THE YEARS IVE BEEN PLAYING AND ILOVE EVANS DRUM HEADS I LIKE THE WAY THERE MADE THE SOUND AND I REALLY LIKE THE GMAD AND EMAD FOR MY KICK DRUM AWESOME AND JUST PUT G14S ON MY TOMS EVANS DRUM HEADS ARE AWESOME AND I PLAN ON USING THEM TILL I STOP PLAYING !!!!!!!.....

I'd been using Evans EMAD II two-ply bass drum heads for awhile now, and decided to try something a little different. Being a fan of the Evans 'adjustable damping' concept, I decided to try the GMAD head. Man, I'm happy about that decision! This head gives me great rebound- better than the EMAD, and allows me to perform more effortless double-bass figures. The sound is just a bit more lively and resonant than the dual-ply EMAD, which (in my case) caused me to prefer the sound of the supplied 'thick' damping ring. I played the head "naked" also, and found it could do Jazz duty, as well as the steady diet of Prog & Classic Rock I generally play. I then added the Black Nylon Evans Double Bass Patch to preserve the head, and I LOVE the sound with this patch, using primarily the "thinner" damping ring. In closing, this head is an excellent value and is VERY versatile. Sound quality and feel are awesome. I'm glad I switched from EMAD to GMAD. I'd like to note that there was damage to the first of these heads I ordered during the shipping process, and Amazon handled my problem with both aplomb and swiftness. I had a return label within 8 hours of my email to them, and a replacement head within 1 business day. Outstanding!!!

The title of this review says it all. This is flat out the best sounding and best feeling head on the market. The damping rings (and if you tune it right!) make it go boom with tons of crisp, powerful punch, low end thunder that doesn't sustain too long.
