I did not realize this had a matte finish. I missed that somehow. Nice head I just don't like the finish.

It's ok. I like the Remad better. I have an onyx batter head and the onyx Reso combo wasn't to good. But to each their own.

The Evans Onyx exceeded my expectations. Great low end sound and the Matte finish looks great!! I highly recommend this head.

This IMO is the perfect resonant head. On my Tama Starclassic maple and B/B kits, I use a clear GMAD and an EQpad in combo with this resonant head. The EQpad is just laying in the shell not touching either head, the front head tuned a bit higher than the batter head, batter head tuned a bit higher than just above wrinkle. Absolute killer bottom end. This combo blows away anything Remo, Aquarian, Attack, or anything else I've played. These heads made me fall in love with my kick drum all over again. The GMAD gave me an open sound with just the right amount of control so it's not boomy. The Onyx Reso had a tone and sustain that I could hear just but holding the head by the collar and tapping it. I like this because you can never ADD sustain.... you can only take it away. If you want shorter sustain try an EMAD2.
