62 degree eyepiece family

62 Degree Eyepiece Family

Explore Scientific Waterproof Eyepieces - Comfort, Quality, Value. The Explore Scientific 62° Series eyepieces are excellent flat-field multi-element oculars that can transform your visual astronomy experience. With an apparent field of view of 62 degrees and near parfocal design, these eyepieces offer incredible value in a very nice eyepiece.

Another great benefit of these eyepieces is the excellent contrast and ease with which you can gaze, not directly at an object, but slightly to either side. This skill, called using averted vision, is especially helpful when observing faint objects, because using averted vision puts the image on a part of your eye that is more sensitive to light, allowing you to see fainter images.

We offer other eyepieces with a variety of Field of View degrees and Focal Lengths

To discover what magnification you will have with a given eyepiece you must know two numbers. First, take your telescope’s focal length in millimeters, and divide this number by the focal length of your eyepiece (this will be written in millimeters on the eyepiece).

I use the eyepiece with a 6 inch refracting telescope, and I could not be more pleased. They are light in weight, have better than average eye relief, and yield sharp images across the entire field of view. More expensive eyepieces may give more eye relief and a wider field of view, but not better optical quality.

Of course, if you have a telescope, you would know what this is for! These are much better quality than the cheap ones that come with a telescope.

Ok, there is nothing to not like with this eyepiece.I got it for my 10" Dobsonian and Celestron Cr 102mm refractor for some waterproof outreach/public event eyepiece. After trying it out in my 127mm refractor I have to say, it has good contrast and is flat across the entire field up to the last 5 percent or so. For the money one could not ask for more. Time and time again, from the Orion nebulae, to the Double Cluster, to the crab and the open clusters in Auriga. It just performed and gave honest bright, good high contrast views. For the money it can't be beat IMHO.

I max out at 68 degrees fov and 62 is good. So, this is a great eyepiece for me...the eye relief, clarity and construction all seem too notch. Delivers a great contrast. And, to add to it's glory it's not a heavy hand grenade....in shirt, just great.

This will be my go-to eyepiece. Great field of view for the magnification level.

Bought this so that I could "explore" the limits of my OTA. This eyepiece is super nice quality and heft, a real pleasure to pick up and use. The view is uniform and clear across the FOV and the eye relief is much better than the Plossl it is replacing. It does highlight the shortcomings of the OTA, but I expected that. Looking at other FLs in the same series.

Clean, flat field in my 8" f7 dob, 85% or better in my 12" f5. Has decent eye relief. Fine ocular for the money, well made & solid

Beautiful eyepiece. My Orion XT8 came with only 1 eyepiece (a 25mm), so I wanted a shorter focal lenght to add more versatility and be able to get closer looks of the moon, split double stars and when the time is right also look at planets. The image is great, so is the eye relief, it feels well built and it's heavier than it seems. I'm just an amateur in astronomy, but I think I got myself a high quality product worth of every penny I spent on it. Even my more experienced friends who have bigger and nicer telescopes were impressed that I got an Explore Scientific eyepiece since they know it's a great brand. I can't wait for my 5.5mm to arrive.
