To be honest, I'm not going to go through a fire to see how this works. But it looks like it will be a good extra layer of protection should there be a fire. You should probably have one for each family member. This one is likely too big for small children so look elsewhere for that. But for average adults, it should work well. Short people may need to be careful of the length and very tall people may not be fully covered around your legs. But this is a good option for extra safety around your house. Just be aware that once you take the cape out of the package, you may not be able to get it back in. I ended up putting mine in a plastic bag so it will be easy to get out if I ever need it.

This is the type of item you should hope you never need and at the same time you don’t want to be without it! You never know. I have had the misfortune to see how these fire cloaks saves lives. I say misfortune because no one wants to be in a fire, even when you survive. I know that there are many brands that can’t match the quality of the “Utypee Fireproof Cloak with Hood” I had to ask a friend who is also a fireman, if indeed, this would pass their inspection test for protection and durability. I was assured that it would and that weight of the cloak was also of high quality. The item itself is a metallic sliver color with safety strips much like a safety vest but a lot more substantial. Obviously there was no reason to start a fire to test it out. However, there are codes that regulate fire safety and that was what he was more interested in. We did unfold it and pour some water on it to make sure it was water repellent. It dried off pretty quickly so that too was a good thing. I strongly recommend keeping one or more of these cloaks in your home. You heard the old adage of “Better safe than sorry.” When you weigh the risk factor of your life, this is money well spent. Make sure you have plenty of protection for yourself and your loved ones.

This fireproof cloak with hood is awesome! The first picture shows me from behind with it wrapped around me. I am 5‘8“ tall and 185 pounds and it covers me from the top of my head to the floor. The second picture is my husband who is 6‘2“ tall, somewhere over 200 pounds. It is covering him from the top of his head to just a little above the floor. The front edge has returns on it so that your hands snug up inside them to hold the blanket securely wrapped around you and provides protection to them. You will feel heat from the fire coming through, but there shouldn’t be any incendiary action unless it is an especially hot fire. The face is exposed so if you’re going by active fire, you may need to raise it up to shield your face as you walk past that area.It is a silver color with reflective stripes, so that you would be able to be spotted in the dark or smoky areas by rescue personnel.One picture I added shows a black soot mark that is from two wooden matches held together burning with the top of the flame just touching the surface of the cloak for approximately five seconds, as they were burning out. I had my hand on the other side and could feel the heat transfer, but my hand did not catch on fire. The photo of the other side shows no soot mark or discoloration. That is the purpose of this fire blanket. It is not to have you live in the fire, but to escape if needed. I do not recommend that anyone test this. I am just sharing my experience. The soot wiped away with a damp washcloth.The bottom is open, and I would suggest to the company to create simple slip on booties with perhaps Velcro attachments that you could quickly put on along with this fire cloak. It seems many fires happen at night when people are in their night clothes and don’t have any footwear on. Just a thought.I absolutely recommend this awesome fire blanket! I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that it would be prudent to have one for each person in an area where travel to the outside might require them going by an active fire.It would also be very helpful in any other area of the house such as the kitchen. We have a smaller fire blanket for use on the stove that would cover one pot, but this would cover an even larger area. I actually had a Pyrex Baking dish filled with game hens explode a few Christmases ago in our oven, and had they caught completely on fire, this would’ve been very helpful.I highly recommend this for your home fire emergency response plan!

2025-03-10. Fireproof cloak with hood by Utypee. Large fire blanket. 71-inches × 63-inches.One thing for sure is that this is a really large blanket. My manual measurements were very close to the advertised ones at 71.5-inches long from the top of the hood to the bottom, and 63.5-inches wide. At these measurements, this fire cloak can easily cover two people on the move (considering the average adult male has a shoulder width of 16-inches.)There is some weight to this blanket, and my manual measurement showed it was 3.75lbs (see pics), heavier than the manufacturers number of 2.6lbs. I haven't tried running through fires with this thing, but I'm sure it's fire retardant.I have two other notables about this blanket. The first is that it came in a cheap vinyl bag. Once removed from the original packaging, it was impossible to get it back in. The bag also tore when I remove the tape they used to mummify it for delivery. Utypee should have included a better storage bag. The second notable is that this fire cloak is one-size and that size is very large, so it's not ideal for shorter people. The cloak is 5-feet from neck to floor., so this cloak has a high chance of being a tripping hazard for shorter people. You should practice using this cloak with how to drape it when using to ensure there is no tripping hazard, especially if you have younger children.Overall, I'm sure this fire cloak functions just fine. But it would have been better if it was offered in different sizes, and it had a storage bag where you could easily remove it when needed.
